LIMIT 4 MPH appears on the screen of my BMW X5 2001. What is the meaning of that message?
It sounds like you inadvertently set the speed warning (you can set it in the OBD to warn you if you go over a certain speed). If the car has nav, look under the "settings", second page, and turn it off or set it to something like 85. If you don't have nav, I'm not sure where the setting is but look for "speed warning" in the manual. Hope that helps.

It means that the engine power has been reduced - either automatically when the brain of the car has detected a mechanical problem in the engine or you have engaged the rain mode.
Usually this happens when you use a low quality fuel. But i've stumbled on rare cases when the Vanos sensor valve was the cause. The only way to precisely tell which is expensive and implies a visit to a dealer.

Is dont remember bad, this is the Speed Limit Display. That is a revolutionary new driver assistance system. The Speed
Limit Display keeps the driver informed of the maximum permissible speed
at all times. A camera fitted near the interior mirror permanently
monitors the signs by the road as well as variable speed limit signs on
overhead display screens.
If there is a sign indicating a speed limit in the wet,
limitations at certain times of the day or restrictions applying only to
towing vehicles, the intelligent driver assistance system, part of BMW
ConnectedDrive, collects data from the rain sensors, clock and tow bar
before displaying the restriction in the cockpit or, if requested, on
the Head-Up Display.
