You guessed it. They are junk.
Just to make sure things are ok on your end. Have someone check your incoming voltages on your household power. Just to make sure that you voltage is running too high or low. You can even call the power company they will come out and do it for free. Just let them know that you are loosing electronics and are concerned.
In addition, cantact your cable provider and have the check in incoming signal on the house to make sure that it is not being overdriven.
Once you are sure that YOUR utilites are fine then chauk it up to bad design in the TVs and never by polaroid again.
