Most of the rack systems available these days can be fitted to almost any car, van or truck. However, it is still recommended to get racks from an experienced store or dealer. You may want to try this link: http://www.orsracksdirect.com/kayak-canoe-racks.html

Hi there,
Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

Here's a link to this great service

Good luck!

Go to your local roof-rack dealer. They have all kinds of stuff designed for this. Thule and Yakima are the two biggest brand names, but there are others.

The rack on the back crossbar is tilted so much that the kayak doesn't sit flat and actually is dented by the rack.

Move the rear bar toward the front one. As long as the minimum distance is there, and the kayak can be secured, you should be fine as long as your front and rear tie downs are secure.

How do I install the foam blocks on my car?

It depends on the type of kit you have purchased. I'm attaching the Yakima canoe carrier instructions. If you have a different kit you may want to look on their website or get the instructions from the store you bought from. http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/orsracksdirect/yakima-standard-canoe-foam-blocks-installation-instructions-pdf.pdf

What do I need to transport my canoe?

Transporting your canoe should be done carefully and should be planned ahead. The first thing you'll need is a solid rack system or foam carriers which are a little harder to handle. For more info, try this link: http://www.mohawkcanoes.com/transport.html

Gear for canoes

Here's a list of some of the other gear we would suggest: - A sturdy roof rack on your car (it will greatly reduce problems and add to your enjoyment). - Bow and stern tie-down lines - these are critical to the safe transport of your canoe when you are on the road. - A set of wheels to make getting your canoe to the water easier. - A bailer and sponge. - Padded canoe seats for longer journeys. - Dry bags to keep extra clothes and snacks protected from water coming in off your paddle, as well as from bow spray or rain.
