These days we can see that the artificial stones match in quality to natural stones and sometimes even better in sharpening performance due to consistency of particle size and control over the properties of the stones. When artificial stones gradually entered the market and were of good quality. Mines of Natural stone where closed and that caused the prices for natural stone to go higher. These days, getting quality natural stone is an expensive issue.

You can do them by hand using a Diamond File, or a Diamond sharpening stone.

How Do Knife Sharpeners Work?

Knife sharpeners are a way of preserving
knives and other such tools that have become blunt with use and therefore less
effective.

Sharpeners work by grinding the knife
against a hard, rough surface. Usually stone is the most common type of
sharpener but sandpaper (which has a soft surface but is hard), can also be
used.

You can take your knives to a knife shop
where they will sharpen them for you (on average once a year), but if you are a
keen knife user and want to keep your knives sharp and in excellent condition,
it might be worth buying a sharpener of your own.

To sharpen your own knives you’ll need to invest in a good whetstone. These are
stones that are available in fine, medium and coarse grits.

The sharpener will come with
instructions about the angle you need to place the knife at in order to sharpen
it.

You can also buy stones for polishing
and to complete the job properly, after you have sharpened your knife, you
should polish it.

Can I sharpen outliner blades on a sharpening stone by hand?

Sharpening stones are a myth you need to produce an accurate hollow grind which is impossible on a wet stone. See this link

Looking for sharping stone from efco fl64 /8 chain

There are multiple chain sizes 1/8", 3/16", 1/4", 5/32", 7/32" and 3/8" chains so the /8 chain number has me guessing. After the qurestions below, here is my best guess.

Also is this for a chain grinder?" or

Are you looking of a hand held type stone?

Aluminum Oxide Chainsaw Sharpening Grinding Stone
or Ceramic stone?

I will assume that your looking for aluminum oxide stones at this time.

http://www.oregonchain.com/homeowner/products/accessories/replacement_stones.htm

This is wide selection of sharpening stones.

You can also use hand held chain sharpening files of the same size that have shapening angles marked on the file set fixture.

Hopefully you have a sharpening guide that will keep your angles correct while shapening.

A safety note: Improperly sharpened chainsaw blades can be very dangerous to the user.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Doesn't cut. we sharpened, we cleaned, it's

Most likely, the blades were not adequately sharpened. To effectively sharpen these type blades, you need a special sharpening wheel designed for this task. If you have attempted to sharpen them on a sharpening stone or other device or you are not sufficiently knowledgeable in sharpening these blades, you probably have not satisfactorily sharpened them. Often, attempting to sharpen without the correct equipment makes them worse than when you started.

To sharpen the blade of my meat slicer

The stone that sharpens the back bevel is used for more time, but use grind for minimal amount of time, 30-40 seconds sounds extreme to me. The stone for the top surface of the blade is only pressed briefly to remove the slight burrs from sharpening on the back side of the blade.
