It is for safety, if one of the air pockets becomes deflated the other section provides enough buoyancy for the child to stay afloat. When teaching kids to swim a n adult must be within arm's reach of the child at all times.

When using swimming armbands for babies, do you need to blow them up before putting them on or after?

It is easier to get the arm bands on if they are deflated and you know how much air to blow into them, however it does save a lot more time to have them half inflated slip them on and then finish of inflating them.

H20 waterproof armband music cuts out

I have tried so many styles of these when swimming, and ALL of them will eventually cut out. I have to stop swimming, blow in the earpod, try and dry it out, try straightening the cord, and try again. Tapping it will help sometimes. Sometiimes nothing works. I've had about 8 different styles and pairs, and you can't count on any of them.
