My brother dropped my 1TB western digial my book essential hard drive and now it will not work. (sounds silly i no!) But my laptop and desktop say that the device is connected but it ill ot show up in my computer. Also when i powerit up it makes a ticking noise before stopping and no fan or anything comes on - but the light does still stay on. Is there a chance that i could fix this problem?

Remove the HDD inside the case,If the HDD inside is working, remove data with a usb to IDE/SATA Adapter. If the HDD is damaged, which is likely, It ,most likely, can be read, but I don't think you are going to like the bill for that service.

Silly question - but I assume you have it plugged in to the mains also? Can you see lights inside the 1TB? If there are no lights - there is no power. Check the connections from WD TB to PC.
