Blades shouldn't be put in the dishwasher. It will ruin the blade and also the handle. Wash the shears with hot water and soup.

A200, 1st gear had no torque(I could stop by hand). Found & replaced key on low speed gear. It sheared it again. It is just shearing it on the flat gear part, not the bevel gear part. I'm thinking it...

I have had my Kitchen Aid since 2003 and never had this problem. If this has happened to you more than once, I would call Kitchen Aid and explain the issue to them. My sister had an Issue with her new Kitchen Aid and they had her bring it for service and they replaced it with a NEW mixer. Kitchen Aid is very good with brand accountability.

What can i do with kitchen shears?

Kitchen shears are a very useful item to have in a kitchen. They can easily and comfortably substitute a knife in many tasks. For example:
- Cutting fresh herbs and spices
- Cutting the roots off vegetables before using them
- Cutting all kinds of raw pastries (like phyllo) and doughs (pizza, pasta etc)
- Snipping pieces of cheese
- Cutting poultry, meet and fish both raw and cooked (for example cutting off wings, cutting poultry into smaller pieces, cutting scales and finns off fish, cutting rotisserie chicken, cutting open crab legs, trimming fat off meat etc)
- Cutting fruits and dried fruit
Shears are also very useful in a kitchen as normal scissors, to cut string, wrapping paper etc

Which is the best kind of kitchen shears?

This article (http://www.cooksillustrated.com/equipment/overview.asp?docid=27679) considered different kinds of kitchen shears of different prices and found that the best shears would be longer but balanced. That would come apart for cleaning, but only after they'd been opened 120 degrees. With a good grip on slippery food. Strong blades but not too hard to close.
My personal suggestion is the KitchenAid shears, that you can find here:
http://www.amazon.com/Kitchenaid-Classic-Shears-With-Black/dp/B0050U240O/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1381749011&sr=1-1&keywords=shears
or the Ergo Chef shears:

Where can i get kitchen shears that come apart so that i can clean them easily?

You can probably find come-apart shears in cookstores and kitchenstores because most professional kitchen shears come apart for better cleaning.
If you want to get them online, tho, I found these on amazon:

Can I use kitchen shears to cut raw chicken?

Sure, that is one of their main purposes. They can also cut parchment paper, fresh spices, twine, and pie crust.

Plasric dish has fused to the element

Use strong kitchen shears to cut away as much of the bulk as you can. Without gouging the round element, scrape it with the kitchen shear blade and run a short cycle. When the drying cycle has run for several minutes (you will smell that the element is heating)
open the DW and again use the shears blade edge to scrape the residual plastic from the element. You may need to repeat to get it all removed.

After you have cleaned it up, do some checking during some loads to make sure the heating element is not being turned on continuously during all cycles. You have not provided the the make/model number, so it is hard to get more specific.

Dishwasher insulation for heat

Hi marseibold,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your questoin is: You're wondering if you can further insulate your dishwasher for heat. You are redoing your kitchen, new appliances, cabinets, etc. and shortsightedly put the spice sliding pull-out cabinet next to the dishwasher. The spices get warm when you use the dishwasher. There is a bit of room between the cabinet and dishwasher. Any recommendations for further insulation?

Yes. I would get another insulation blanket off a d/w I'm disposing. Anyway, you need to get one and install it over the old one to decrease the heat transfer.
