You can also use a USB NIC adapter if you don't want to hunt down the right nic card for your laptop. Go here for the adapters:

My dell inspiron 1545 cannot connect to internet as it says i have no network adapters installed. How do i do this

Hi Anon
Your laptop should come with an Ethernet connection as well as wireless connections, try making a wired connection via your Ethernet port, these are usually more reliable than wireless connections.
When I have experienced these sort of problems it is usually because of a missing driver.
Check that you have the proper drivers for your internet connections installed, these should come on a disk that is supplied with your laptop.
Finally check this link for Microsoft's official network trouble shooter.

I reformat my dell inspiron 600m but no ip address and network connection i can't connect the internet

do u have a third party Ethernet card but any way its most likely a driver problem

go to control panel network and internet connections then click on network connections and see if there is a network connection there on that page if there is then check to see if it is enabled

or right click on my computer click on properties go to device manager look for network adapters and see what kind of network adapter u have so u can download drivers for it

now if it came with the computer or is built in on the mother board the go to www.dellsuport.com/drivers and select ur computer and download all ur drivers

I formated the laptop and since then i can't browse with cable unless with wireless

Here's what happened...you reformatted your computer...most of the drivers were installed automatically. ... your N.I.C card was left out.... (Network Interface Card) Go to your manufacturers site i.e. DELL, HP, Gateway... {www.dell.com} etc... go to "Support" and "Drivers"...you want to download "Network" drivers. Do this, and restart your computer...

I reinstalled XP Pro and I cannot connect to the intern et. It appears I am missing drivers for the Ethernet Controller. What is the simplest solution? Where can I get the driver?

when you update a driver, you also need a cd installer. If you lost the cd installer of the product, you really have to do the worst thing.: search and search for the drivers over the internet until you find it. Goodluck men..!

Ide controller for dell inspiron 2500 laptop

Any 20GB disk-drive has built-in drive-electronics,
which interface with the IDE hardware on the motherboard of the laptop -- typically, laptops do *NOT* have "plug-in" adapters for such "basic" functions, unlike desktops, where you can change video/audio/network hardware via add-in cards.

You probably can use any disk-drive that is _smaller_ than 32GB -- disks larger than 32GB require newer motherboards, due to the larger capacity of those disks.

Connecting your old computer to your laptop is actually very easy.
You will need to go and buy an ethernet cable But. you must buy what is known as a "crossover" cable and NOT a normal straight cable. This cable will simply plug into the ethernet port on each machine allowing them to create a small simple network. You can use the "Create a small office or home network" wizard to do this or better still if you have an actual XP installation disk you can create the network using it.
This is an example of a crossover cable:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=3756907

If your old computer doesn't have an ethernet port you can use a USB adapter to do the same thing.
http://www.cyberguys.com/templates/SearchDetail.asp?productID=8463
You may need to buy an ethernet cable to go with the USB adapter, I have never used the USB adapter to this so I cannot comment on how easy or reliable it is.

If you find this a bit daunting let me know, we will have to speak directly about it, I am sure fixya would not be happy about me offering my services directly to a fixya client.
