ok your tv does not come with the very best sound, you have to get a receiver 7.1 or you can use the optical wire , that's if the system you are using has that option.

Resetting the TV
If the buttons on the remote AND the buttons on the TV case do not work (channels do not change and you cannot open or navigate the menu), the TV has stopped responding. Reset the TV as follows:

NOTE:
Some TVs have a reset button. If available and accessible, try using the reset buttons before using the steps below. Using the reset buttons can save time.

clip_image001.jpg
1. Unplug the TV power cord from the power outlet.
2. Unplug any connected devices (DVD, Set-top boxes, etc...)
3. Press and hold the TV power button for five seconds.
4. Plug the TV power cord back into the power outlet and turn on the TV.
5. Open the on-screen menu to confirm that the TV is responding again.
6. Turn off the TV and reconnect the devices.
7. Turn on the TV.

hope this may help;

SOURCE: I have a Samsung LCD HDMI 37inch TV series 5 do I need a set top box

No set top box required. Your TV has the latest technology. If so desired you could subscribe to a cable or satellite network and you will receive a box that will pick up all channels. HD channels are usually extra. As far as picking up "digital" broadcasting, no worries because your TV is already digital capable.

SOURCE: samsung lcd 720 ln32b360 doesn't fill screen in

If by regular cables you are talking about the standard red/yellow/white composite cables, then, yes, it will affect HD as composite cannot send an HD signal. Only HDMI and component (red/blue/green video only) cables.

Change to HDMI and let us know if it works for you.

How does it help to have a Full HD LCD TV?

Hi - welcome to Fixya,

There is no advantage in buying a Full HD (1080p) TV if you are only using it for watching TV. Currently, there are no Full HD television broadcasts and there are no plans to introduce any. All UK HD channels currently broadcast in 720p resolution whether they are on Sky, Freeview, or Freesat. Therefore, any TV that is described as 'HD ready' rather than 'Full HD' will display all HD channels at maximum quality or resolution.

The advantage of Full HD is when using them with Blu-ray DVD players, gaming systems, e.g. Sony Playstation, or for playback of media files from your PC. These systems output at 1080p / Full HD (but only when connected with an HDMi cable) and you would need a full HD TV in order to get the best quality / resolution from these systems. However, you don't need a Full HD TV to connect these devices as they can all display their output on a 720p HD Ready TV.

The main disadvantage of any HDTV (1080 or 720) is when watching standard definition (SD) broadcasts. Full HD TVs have 1080 horizontal display lines, but SD broadcasts only have 540 horizontal lines. When watching SD channels on an HD TV, the other 540 lines, i,e half of the picture, are being created by software within the TV - known as 'Upscaling'. Upscaling requires processing by the TV which takes time and fast motion can seem blurred or blocky/pixellated as a result. Higher end TVs have faster response times (0.5ms or less) which minimises the pixellation so this specification is important when selecting an HD TV for purchase.

Hope this helps.

You have a really nice TV, you have a built in ASTC tuner(digital).
If you want to recieve OTA(over the air) signals, all ypu will need is an antenna.
Visit this site for some great info on digital TV.

Best way to connect new system

After trying several ways, we decided the best picture was to run the blue ray (out) directly to the TV (in) with an HDMI and another HDMI from the sat. box(out) to TV(in), then optical audio from TV (out) to receiver (in). This way you don't have to change channels on the reciever when switching from TV to DVD. Remember that HDMI is one cable that supports audio and video. If you are using all Samsung products and want to use one remote, using the Anynet feature, I think it has to be connected with an HDMI. I'm going to try connecting an HDMI too from the reciever to the TV to see if this feature will work. It does with the Blue Ray.

TV only will play HD Channels

This must be the setup for your TV box. Contact the support for your TV box.

Normaly, the TV should auto select the proper operation mode.
