I had the same issue twice (2 diffrent devices) on LG Blue-ray HX-906 - stuck on "please wait" after switching it on. It turned out to be defective mainboard - main BGA chip (the one with black radiator) has some problem with connection to mainboard. Here is how to repair it:
- dismount the mainboard
- take off the radiator from the main chip
- put alluminium foil around the chip to avoid unnecessary heating up of other parts of PCB
- heat up the chip using air hotgun to about 200 celsius for about 5 minutes.
Mother board faulty. some times a software update resolves such problems. But for the you have to consult the authorize service center.
