I would suggest fixing it . You only have 2 parts in the defrost system . A timer , and the defrost heater which comes with the bimetal , pt . # WR51X10031 .Most probable , is the defrost heater . You will need to remove the rear inside freezer panel , and defrost the coils with a hair dryer . After defrosting , 2 screws hold each ( 2 ) heater on , ant the defrost thermostat , just clips onto the top of the coils .

Do you know how to jump the thermostat wires? The problem could be the start relay, thermostat or a Freon leak. Does the compressor get hot while running? Does the compressor stop and start frequently?

How do I locate the kenmore 106.53582300 thermostat and check to see if it is working?

Hi Mark,

Your cold control is located in the control panel inside the refer section. This unit has 3 wire, including a ground. Jump the other wire, Not the ground wire!! If all other components are working properly, it should come on. If not the reply to the compressor is where I would be looking. I see these fail more than a cold control. Good Luck

I have a magic chef model #mcbr445s1. it was sitting in the basement for a while. when i went to plug it in, nothing happens. any suggestions as to what the problems is

Thermostat is off? Thermostat is defective or start relay is defective, make sure compressor is not getting hot when plugged into power source. If suspected compressor start relay we can jump the thermostat to eliminate that possibility. Let me know should you have questions, Thanks Sea Breeze

Siemens defrost controler

turn the defrost cycle switch till the compressor shuts off, if the defrost heater starts working you know it's the cycle switch. Sometimes the thermostat has to be showing a need for the heater to even come on. In
this case you might have to jump out the thermostat to make the
heater come on. If you thaw the back of the freezer and visually inspect the heating element it can sometimes have burnt ends that will tell you
it is bad. You could also use a voltmeter and track where the voltage stops. But make sure the Thermostat and defrost cycle switch will be
calling for heater to come on.

Motor not running Refrigerator not cooling

There are three possibilities why the compressor motor is not running. #1. The thermostat switch is not closing to turn the motor on. #2. The compressor motor is bad. #3 The defrost timer is engaged, preventing the compressor motor from starting.

Solution for #1: Locate the thermostat switch behind the console in the refrigerator. It is attached to the freezer temperature adjusting knob. If you jump the switch out, the compressor motor should start. If it does, replace this switch.

Solution for #2: get another refrigerator. It is not worth repairing.

Solution for #3: Turn the freezer temperature switch to the coldest setting. Locate the defrost timer in the console on the ceiling of the refrigerator compartment. Look for position labels like "cool control" and "compressor". Jump between these two wires. The compressor should start. If it does, replace this module.

Unit stopped running. T-stat just makes a clicking sound

Are you sure its the thermostat that is clicking and not the compressor. IF the click is comming from inside the frig it is the thermostat, but if its comming from the rear of the frig its the compressor.
If its the thermostat thats clicking you can unplug the frig and remove the thermostat and jump the two wires together and plug the frig back in to see of the compressor comes on. If it comes on, replace the thermostat.
If it doesn't come on check to see if you have current to the compressor. If no power to the compressor check to see of the frig is stuck in defrost. Locate the defrost timer and advance one click and observe if the frig comes on. If the frig comes on at this point replace the defrost timer.

Doesnt work when plugged in after stored for a year.

Most time this is because the motor starter contacts and thermostat control rust during non use. This can be fixed by checking the motor start relay and jumping the thermostat wires together while unplugged and then plug in to test. Let me know, Sea Breeze
