Hi mortonwood12. it could be two things. 1.- you have way too much information on that drive and 2.- either the enclosure or the hard drive is going bad. (Sorry to be this harsh). What I recommend is get another hard drive and backup all your data "pronto"!. Then remove the hard drive from the enclosure (it could be a little tricky) and then trying connecting the hard drive internally. If you still have the same problem, then it's the hard drive. This appears to be a common occurrence with the My Book. It may be a heat dissipation problem from leaving the unit on for longer than it takes to back up your data.

I think you might need technical support from Western Digital. Do you have an alternate backup?

Hi, This post might be of some help/idea... http://www.fixya.com/support/t191153-device_recognized The only difference is your model uses Western Digital and not Seagate. Yours can still be recognized but Windows consider it non-formatted. First try a data recovery software and another storage medium where you can copy the files if you're successful in the recovery. Google is your friend... I found the WD website and browsed for the model you said. I found the installation guide and looked it over. You might want to do the same.
