Assuming you have checked all the channels for functionality, it appears your radios need reprogrammed. This is something which would require you taking the radios to your local Motorola dealer.

How to change the squelch on mtx8000

You can always have a radio receive. To transmit require an FCC License, and you need authorization to "Talk" to Public Safety. There are large fines and possible jail time to talk on channels you are not authorized for, especially Public Safety. Sadly, your radio is programmed to monitor only when the button is held down. The frequencies in your area working are a lucky coincidence. Take it to an Authorized Motorola Dealer and pay to have it reprogrammed. Radio is not field programmable. Hold onto your wallet, they are expensive to have programmed. You should have bought a high end digital scanner.

I can't get the radios to communicate with eachother, they have power and chirp when I press the talk button but nothing is being received.??? They look like the EM1000 model of Motorola radios. The FCC...

These are multi-channel FRS / GMRS radios. In order to receive transmitted signals from the other radio, they both must be set to the same Channel and the same Interference Eliminator Code. One without the other will keep audio from being heard on the receiving radio.

I suspect you need to refresh yourself with the radio's controls and settings. If you have lost the manual, you can get a copy free of charge from Motorola You'll need a free program called Adobe Reader to view it.

Once you have everything - look at the right hand side of page 1 for "Talking and Listening" followed by "Menu Options" to set the radios up correctly. Keep in mind that if VOX is selected, and there is sound near both radios, they both will transmit at the same time - since the radios receive OR transmit at any given time, no audio will be heard from either.

I need to get a manual for Ht1000 and ex500.

Unable to locate a PDF file for the EX500 or HT1000 online, however, here are the part numbers you can order by HKLN4118A for EX500 and 6881079C50 for HT1000.

Best regards.

Motorola T5100 Radio

Setting and Transmitting Call Tones
Your radio can transmit different call tones to other radios in your group so you can alert them that you want to talk.
To set a call tone:
1. With the radio on, press MENU 3 times. The current call tone setting flashes and displays.
2. Press + or - to change and hear the call tone.
3. Press MENU or PTT to set the new call tone or turn feature off.

Hello

if it's a single tone try communicating threw it. some of them have identifiers in them. you hear a beep but other on the same chanel may hear a different tone. this has been added over the past few years due to people talking on top of eachother, it does this to let others know someone is going to talk.

SX700 and T5522 talkabouts

Hello Walvis,

Based on a quick web search the Motorola SX700 appears to be a Family Radio Service unit for use in the USA and the Motorola T5522 appears to be PMR446 radio for use in the UK. While the radios are similiar, they don't operate on the same frequencies so they won't be able to communicate with eachother. Because both FRS and PMR446 are very similiar, Motorola often markets versions of the same radio (with slightly different model numbers) for each service.

Best Regards,
Ken

Working restricted area

I have seen a lot of those radios that has a "factory problem" to determ this fist check that: Both radios must to have same channel and same Code. Basically has to have the same numbers on display. Check if one of them has the Quiet Tone. Work in any area?--- if you have a Pair of radios they must to work between each other, mostly of this radios works in FRS frequencies as a Talk About from Motorola This radios can present some problems with frequency error, but if you have no the necesary equipment you could not to ajust it. I hope this tips can hel you Ernesto Garcia
