Re: hello my compaq laptop is just really dark
If the screen is just dark but you can see images still, it might jsut be the backlight i suggest a power reset (unplug and remove battery, hold power button down for 1 minute no less, replace the plug and battery) after doing so it should work, if not call ompaq its a hardware issue, now in the event its completely black try the same thing, either way it sounds liek hardware.

Hi , Soory to hear about what happen , 1st - you need to completely let it dry out before trying to start it , if you did not , you might haave damaged it. 1st lets try your Fn key along by pressing F8 , this will brighten the screen to max, 2nd - try loading a bootable cd operating system in yor cd drive and see what happens , other wise you might have damaged the video chip on the motherboard , Let me know , what happens ok , goodluck Roy
You can try to use your Fn key (is on the bottom left of your keyboard) and one of the function buttons on the top of your keyboard. For brghtness try to press Fn+F8 (to add brightness) or Fn+F7. To see the images on the second monitor you should press Fn+F4.
try to press and hold Fn and F8 - this is to toggle screen setting to ext and back to LCD on laptop. if nothing happens turn off computer by pressing power button, unplug the ac adapter, remove the battery. remvoe residual electricity from computer by pressing power button 10 times. just plug again the ac and leave the battery out. Pres and hold the letter D and while holding that press the power button once and release both of them. it will perform the built in self test on the lcd. if nothing happens, turn off computer. press anf hold Fn and while holding it press power button. it will perform diagnosis on computer. if still nothing happens need to repalce motherboard and LCD.
Hi, Laptop keyboards can differ with the function keys and are set out different depending on make and model. If you take a look at the F4 and F8 keys, is there any symbols (in blue) on them? If there is post back here with a description of the symbols, If there is no blue symbols on the keys then they will do nothing and there is nothing to worry about.
press and hold the "blue" "fn" button (buttom left, second from left), as you press the F10 button and again untill you have the brightness you want.
But be avare, you use more power this way, whitch will result in shorter battery time.
Sounds like the auto-dim in the BIOS is set too low. Fortunately the Compaq R3000 allows you to adjust the brightness right from the keyboard. Hold down the [FN] function key while tapping the [F8] key will brighten the screen, while [FN]-[F7] will dim it. The settings are different for running on AC power and battery, so you must do each individually.
