Question about Maytag SAV2555A Top Load Washer
I have a MayTag washer model# PAVT244AWW. The belt broke and needs replaced. I looked at the bottom where the belt fits, and noticed a pulley was broken. There are two small pulleys on the right bottom of the washer. I need the pulley that is in the front. Can someone tell me how to safely remove the front panel?

this is my experience repairing the maytag washer Atlantis mav series 9750 aww, I had to replace the spin bearing since it was making a jet engine noise when it was spinning out the water. its not an easy job for my 1st time taking this machine apart, you literally take it all apart to get to this bearing, but now I can show how to do it with pictures making it easier for you to do it. even if you have to replace something other than the spin bearing, this how to tutorial will show you how to get to most of the parts in this machine, parts are not that expensive, 50-80for bearing kit, here is my site on how to do it
there is also a download for the repair manual

My Maytag Performa was making the loud squealing noise. I changed out the water pump/bearing, took care of the problem.
Putting a new belt on just help burn up the bearing (they needed replacing) and probably ruined the new belt. Probably seized the water pump bearing and the belt jumped and broke the motor pully. A washing machine motor is very strong, when that h20 pump bearing seized (or possibly some bearings jamed up) the motor kept on turning that belt and the plastic pully gave in. You'll need to replace that also. If the h20 pumb bearing is turning freely, likely the bearings jammed up but or now loose. That bearing should be tight, no slack or play in it. You can probably wobble the pully on it all around while turning it. The slightest slack is too much.

SOURCE: broken e-clip
This is not an easy clip to put in. If you have purchased the thrust bearing kit (part number 12500036) to get the clip it will be helpful but may still be hard to get the clip in. The kit comes with another washer that is thinner, making it slightly easier to install the clip. The reason it is hard to get in; your brake (part num. 35-2948) has worn and as your brake wears the shaft raises and puts more pressure on the clip (which is probably why your clip has broken). I would advise to change the brake and thrust bearing kit. Even after changing both of these the clip can still be a problem to getting on. You will need to use a small screwdriver to pull the transmission shaft down and get one side of the clip in at a time. It is slightly easier with 2 people, one pulling the shaft with a screwdriver and the other putting the clip on. The only problem, changing the brake requires a specialty tool which is about $100. The tool relieves the pressure of the brake spring which is somewhere between 200-400lbs pressure. You may want to call the local repairman on this one unless you don't mind spending this much on a tool and take precautions to relieve the spring correctly.
