This isn't a notorious problem. many problems can cause this. the instant on/off behavior just says there is one of many fuses blown in the television. you can't just replace the fuse, when it fails get a failure code find out what it means and repair the problem. I would recommend paying someone to do it if you don't want to trash your mits set.
to get the code you hold down the menu and input button for 5 seconds after the on/off sequence. it is a 2 digit code with a pause inbetween, example 2 pause 2 pause 2 pause etc. is a 2.2 code

60607 push button to come on and the code came up 2.2 could u please tell me the problem

This is an error for a short in the power supply/mother board. the fault can be traced by isolation of the circuit after checking the power supply - LT side - and proceeding to isolate the drivers which can be suspect.

I thought i might need a lamp for my mitsubishi tv--model VS 60607 when my tv is fuzzy when turned on.should i simply replace the lamp or is there something else i should try? thank you!

This TV is a rear projection television and does not have a lamp. It has three CRT color guns (Red, Blue, and Green). You have a convergence issue (the red, blue and green color guns aren't aligned properly) and it doesn't sound like a very big one. You should be able to adjust this through the CONVERGENCE Menu in ADVANCED SETTINGS.
More details can be found in your manual, here. The model number isn't exactly the same but I'm sure the process is identical or really close. The other option would be a bad IC (integrated circuit) for the convergence control. This is unlikely unless your picture looks something like this: captainhawk1_15.jpg

My mitsubishi vs 60607 big screen will not come timer light comes on then off....tried holding down menu and input buttons and the code it gives me is 2 flashes and then 4 flashes...what does...

The 2,4 error code means a problem in the Vertical circuit.

This could (due to the age of the set) be bad solder connections at the vertical output chip or a part bad anywhere in the circuit.

Problem is in Vertical circuit.

If this told you something you did not know, rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

Mitisubishi 60607 will come on the go right back off

you have a component failure. begin checking the on-board fuses. that should lead you to the circuit that failed. most often it is the convergence circuit. 2nd most is a loss of vertical deflection. this is a tube protection circuit that shuts the set off before it destroys the crt's.

When I attempt to turn on my 10-year old 60'' Mitsubish rear projection tv, the power light comes on for a few second and then goes off. Thus I can not power on the tv even after repeated atempts.

Hi, this is a common issue due to the age of this set. The internal power board has failed. You can fix this by replacing the internal power board. Its a single piece of circuitry that can be ordered and shipped to your home for a do it yourself or, you can call a service tech to do it for you.

My neighbor has this problem...Their 60" vs60607 Mitsubishi Projection TV turns on and immediately turns off. The timer light blinks when this happens. I looked at the troubleshooting where other people...

My big screen had the same problem. According to my service repair person, the units have a latent defect in the lamp seals. Apparently, the lamps are encased in a silicone based oil. When the seals at the bottom of the lamp housing fail, the oil leaks onto the main circuit board and shorts out the system. The board woudl probably need to be repair or replaced. Again, according to my service person, the manufacturer corrected the design problem in subsequent models by installing a plastic shield across the circuit board.
