Fryer not starting

Hi, thanks for taking the time to look over this, I have a pretty old gas deep fryer, it was used when I bought it, a paper sticked inside of the cover door as a frymaster brand (GF14SD). the problem started few weeks ago, normally it will start, then stop and start again after awhile to heat up the oil again, but few times now, it will just stop and not starting again. and lately just seems more frequent, until this morning it just not starting when I try to turn the knob to start. any ideas?

Hello. In my experience with this unit, there was a period that the thermostat would fail in this condition, sometimes you could clean all the connections from the thermostat and reconnect them to correct it, but usually it required replacement of the thermostat. Run your unit again, and when the problem occurs, jumper the two terminals on the thermostat, temporarily only, to bypass it. If the burners immediately come on, this is your problem, if not, I would then lean toward the thermopile and/or the gas valve.

Hope that helps, and thank you.

I'm suspecting one of the following causes:

1. The thermo couple/thermo pile
2. Gas valve sticking, intermittant operation, doesn't snap open when required all the time. THIS CAN ONLY BE PROVED WITH A MANOMETER and specialized meter that can measure thermocouple or thermoppile current, and volt meter.

I've worked on many a McDonalds Frymaster beeping fryers that intermittantly go into ignition failure that TURNS OUT TO BE THE ACTUAL GAS VALVE FAILING TO SNAP OPEN, and hang only once in a while. Gas valves are only good for so many operations, once that has been reached start failing. The indicator you gave, IT WAS USED BEFORE YOU GOT IT makes me believe it is your gas valve!

ps: manual for your unit

13 year old pitco frialator fryer pilot wont stay on. changed gas valve and thermopile.... pilot light wont stay lite

Hi there.
Check and tighten all wiring connections.
Check the hi limit for continuity across the terminals using an ohm meter, if it has no continuity, you have to replace the hi limit.
Regards.

We have a double Pico Friolator. Took over from previous restaurant. Can't seem to light pilot. Can you walk us thru it?

If it's a manual gas, then you have to hold the pilot button down for awhile, in order for the sensors to tell the pilot to lite....It takes some time. If you need help, call our service tech, Ray, at 888-542-5959 at Restaurant Equipment Outlet, Cincinnati, Ohio. He's pretty good over the phone even...Thanks, Susan

Imperial cif 40 single tank bouble basket deep gas fryer

When the whole unit shuts down including the pilot light the thermocouple is not working properly. The thermocouple is what tells the gas safety valve that the pilot light is lighted. When the thermocouple fails and does not send the milli-volt (mv) signal to the gas safety valve due a failure the gas safety valve turns off the gas supply. (i.e total shut down)
If you have a handyman around you can have him disconnect the thermocouple from the gas valve control and clean the mating area in the gas valve and on the bitter end of the thermocouple. After cleaning then reconnect the thermocouple. This sometimes corrects the problem. FYI you can get a thermocouple at most any large appliance parts supply. (You will need to the know total length) It would be even better to have the old one in hand during the trip to the parts store.

Thanks for using FixYa,

Kelly

Bravetti pro 4 litre deep fryer model f1400b. used 3 times and whenever i use batter with like fish, put it in the basket, everything sticks to the bottom of the basket like glue. no matter what i try it...

Hi, this one is a bit tricky: you have to drop the basket first, hold on to one end of the fish without burning your fingers, and give the batter a minute - the whole piece will start to float when the batter starts to cook. You need to flip it over with tongs to cook it completely.

Boiling grease

When the issue starts have you actually checked the grease temperature? You can also checkto see if there is excessive grease build up on the themostat.Sometimes uncooked food particles can cause a boiling type motion in the fryer while they cook. be sure to do regular filterings of the grease, this will cut down on the suspended particles. If the grease temp is above 350, shut power off and check continuity on the thermostat,it could be sticking closed,in which case it will need to be replaced

If I were you, I would take it back. There may be something at the factory that is the cause. With this kind of investment, you don't need the headache. At least they could a tech to fix it on their time.
