We have an IBM 4247 which prints from an AS400. The print on the left side of the paper is very light and you can hardly read it, it looks almost blurry. The prints gets a little darker on the right side of the paper. When the printer starts printing there is a loud popping noise. This has just started last week. We changed the ribbon, thinking that it was the ribbon, but it is not. Do you have any idea what is causing this? We have a second printer and we are switching all of our print to that printer at the moment.

Put in a multi part form and type if the carbons come out OK the the ribbon isn't lifting, Wiggle the big black gear on the R. side of the carrier back and forth. They do get tooth for tooth when they get old. If the print on the copies id bad or not there you need a print solenoid cap. We sell them for 20,00 including instructiond and shipping.
Continuous forms paper fed through the front of the
printer also uses either the Front Push, Rear Pull, or Push-Pull
tractor configurations. Make sure this is set correctly or it
will reverse your margins.
It could also be your software. When you print through windows it's using the Microsoft system font controller, but your software could be setting font, margins, and alignment by the settings in the printer not in the driver. So if the first doesn't work, set your system back to align left then go into the printer configuration menu on the device and adjust the margins there.
