It should be possible. You'll still need any serial numbers that Dell supplied to install from it. Try making an image file in your CD/DVD recording software to see if the disk can be copied. That way you can avoid wasting a blank, or at least minimize the possibility.

When pressing F8 on a dell inspiron 1525 I can't get into setup for the advance boot options menu. I am trying to overcome a "NTLDR is missing" issue

HI,
If you're trying to boot from the DVD/CD(OS disc) try tapping on F12 to go to the boot menu and then choose your DVD/CD drive to boot from the OS Disc. From there, you can use the OS Disc to repair your computer. Here's the step by step instruction once you've booted from the OS disc:
1. Insert the Windows bootable CD into the computer. 2. When prompted to press any key to boot from the CD, press any key. 3. Once in the Windows setup menu press the "R" key to repair Windows. 4. Log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key and pressing enter. 5. You will then be prompted for your administrator password, enter that password. 6, Copy the below two files to the root directory of the primary hard disk. In the below example we are copying these files from the CD-ROM drive letter, which in this case is "e." This letter may be different on your computer.
copy e:\i386\ntldr c:\ copy e:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\ 7. Once both of these files have been successfully copied, remove the CD from the computer and reboot.
If this does not resolve the problem, you might need to reinstall windows.
Hope this helps!

When trying to reinstall windows xp, the process keeps failing during setup saying, "The file comct132.dll was not copied correctly. The file Setup on your hard drive is not a valid Windows XP system...

Click start/run Type: cmd
In the Command window type:
SFC /scannow Note the space between SFC and /scannow

You can copy/paste: SFC /scannow

Hit the Enter button
keep your xp cd handy in case you're asked to chuck it into your cd rom

The above should replace missing files and get you to the place where the install can proceed.

Let me know. __________________
If this doesnt work, yes hard drive needs to be replaced.internal hard drives are system specific.u need to contact dell tech support to get the right specifications

My dell optiplex gx520 sounds like it continues to startup for 20+ minutes. Windows load but I cannot do anything.

possibly your windows has become corrupted..try reinstalling it..if your dell came with pre-installed software, then you could use the OS reinstallation cd..note that you may loose all your data since reinstallation will include formating and deleting all your previous data

I need the produce key for it reinstallation cd

You can not get CD key, serial #., crack and code in fixya under the circumstances with the law of piracy. Go to microsoft center and buy a genuine copy of software you need. Only the manufacturer can give a licensed key of their products.

Hi

You could try purchasing the recovery CD's direct from Dell, i know you say that that they dont deal with it, but in my experience if you call them they are helpful

Alternativley you can purchase a seperate copy and then download the drives for the components from the Dell website

Please can i ask that you leave feedback and vote if this has been useful
