Thankyou for your response but still no luck. Steps 1 and 2 I have definitely checked. Step 3 I have tried but I cannot see any Hide SSID checked box. I did see the SSID information. The only button I have is the apply button and I don't seem to be able to change anything else??

Hello...there could be many reasons for this.

I understand from your other posting that when you go to 'View Wireless networks', your own is not there? Yet your wireless LED is lit on the the router, and you can obtain internet when you connect via cable?

If that's the case, and I've understood the problem correctly, here are some basic troubleshooting steps to begin with:

    1. While diagnosing wireless connection problems, bring the laptop as close as possible to the router. This helps to rule out physical obstructions and/or wireless interference, which can block a signal.

    2. Next, if there is a button on the laptop to enable your wireless connection, double check that it is switched on.

    3. If you don't 'see' your own network in your 'available wireless networks', check whether your SSID (network name) is broadcasting.

To do this, connect to the router using a wired (ethernet) connection. Type the router IP address into a web browser, eg: . At the prompt, enter the password: 1234 or whichever password you have set.

I think the SSID settings are found under Network (left hand menu) > Wireless LAN. Under the General tab, check to see if 'Hide SSID' is checked: if so, uncheck it, click 'Apply', and close the screen. Return to the laptop and try the wireless connection again: see if your network name now appears.

These are only basic steps to start you off. If they don't help, or you need more information, please come back to Fixya.

If needed, you can pick up a user manual from Zyxel which may give more details.
    Good luck....

Hi again….thank you, I see!

The Zyxel manual is very large (350+ pages); it has several versions, and the user interface is quite complex. I was expecting (hoping) you might see the following screen - p108 of the manual I was looking at.....

Zxyel router Can't get Wirless to work - 1c79ba7.png

- but maybe another option has to be selected at login – eg ‘Advanced’?

I’ll leave that one with you for the moment, but it’s worth noting that when you find it - or its equivalent - ‘Active Wireless LAN’ box must be checked, or wireless will not work.

In the meantime, another troubleshooting step is to check the status of the wireless adapter, on the laptop. If you have not done this already, here is a guide:

1. On your laptop, pull up the Device Manager (if using Windows). One way is to go to Start > Run (for Windows XP only) > type devmgmt.msc in the box you see, and click OK.
2. You should see the Device Manager. Next to Network Adapters, click any ‘+’ you see to locate the Wireless Network Adapter. Are there any unusual symbols there, such as a red cross, or yellow exclamation mark?

If so, this suggests a problem with the wireless adapter. For example, a disabled adapter will show a red cross (right click to select 'enable').

There is more troubleshooting you can do within Device Manager, such as updating the device driver - but it's good to check for obvious problems first.

Apologies if you have checked all this already, but this is where I would start, given the problem you describe.

If all seems well with the Wireless Network Adapter, and the router is broadcasting its SSID - or if you have problems with troubleshooting - please come back to Fixya.

Many thanks for the feedback. I don't know if you have managed to connect yet?

If you have not found whether or not your SSID is broadcasting, you could try manually connecting to your wireless signal anyway. This link gives you a quick guide to how to do this is Windows XP -and here's one for Vista.

If you still cannot connect, this would suggest your wireless is not broadcasting at all, or there may still be a problem with the wireless network adapter.

Belkin Router not allowing an Internet connection

It's not unheard of for a router to fail. When you connected the computer to the Modem, did you use the same cable that was connected to the router? Does your internet connection require a username and password? If so, is that configured in your modem, or the router? If not in the modem it must be the router.

Tiscali wirless connection issue

Sounds like the router may need a firmware update as the DHCP service is failing to run correctly.

You can however just use a static ip address.
First of all find out the network address in use.
eg. - -
to find out, - start menu - run - cmd - ok - ipconfig

1. Log on to the client computer as Administrator or as Owner. 2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. 3. Click Network and Internet Connections. 4. Click Network Connections. 5. Right-click Wireless Network Connection, and then click Properties. 6. Click the General tab, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the This connection uses the following items list, and then click Properties. 7. In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box, click Obtain an IP address automatically (if it is not already selected), and then click OK.

Note You can also assign a unique static IP address in the range of to For example, you can assign the following static IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway:

IP Address
Subnet mask
Default gateway
