Question about Sta Rite 1 Hp Sta - Rite Abg Swimming Pool Pump

2 Answers

I have a Sta-Rite model number PE 5L 125L 3/4 hp pool pump that is squeaking..need new bearing I think..any way I am trying to remove the face of the pump housing. I have removed the 4 large bolts that hold it on but now I can move it back and forth a bit but it won't come off. Is there a clip or screw holding the pump face on the motor or a key, bolt?? There doesn't seem to anything I can remove to get at the end of motor shaft to see if there is something there holding it on..so what should I do to get it off..this link ( http://www.pentairpool.com/products/replacement_list.php?id=103 ) has a pic of my pump or one very similar and I have #'s 3,7 and 8 that are all together I can take 8 off but it doesn't seem to get me to anything removable..

You to hold the other end of the shaft in place and then the impeller screws off.

Their should be a screw holding the impeller(#7) in place. If it is like the older models, you need to turn it clockwise to remove it. Once you get that screw out, the impeller should come out. They do tend to get stuck sometimes, and you may really have to pry it off.

I have a older spa with a Sta Rite pump motor. Without removing the damaged pump I was able to see the model number of the pump through a mirror. I beleive it reads K48M5A3, is there any way that you can...

That would definitely be the model number. The K indicates Capacitor start and run, the 48 indicates the frame size, and the "M" indicates horsepower (1.5 hp, in your case). If your replacing the motor, make sure you get the same Horsepower and Service Factor ratings. Hope this helps. If you need further assistance post a reply in the comments, and don't hesitate to leave a good thumb rating if you found this helpful. Thanks, and good Luck!

Hi,

It will be better to service the machine the machine than to change the bearing.
Servicing the machine will stop the high pitch sound and makes it work better and also reduce your cost.

Thanks for contacting Fixya.

Tring to take the pump face off the motor

You have to remove the back cover from the motor. Next loosen the capacitor. Put a 7/16" wrench on the shaft and the pump impeller will screw off by hand.
