HP Photosmart C7280 "Ink System Failure" Error:0xc18a0101

Hi,

I recenlty replaced an HP ink cartridge on my Photosmart C7280 All-in-One and now I've got a consistent printer error (Ink System Failure Error:0xc18a0101).

Another FixYa posting appears to discribe a similar problem (please see this other posting cut and pasted below).

HP has not been able to help me with this problem claiming that my printer is out of warranty. I contend that since this may be a problem related to a recently purchased HP ink jet cartridge, that the cartridge warranty should apply. I spent a considerable amount of time on the phone with who I think was HP tech support but had to end the call due to a problem at home.

Any idea if this is a problem caused by the new HP ink cartridge or something gone haywire with the hardware as the HP tech support rep has claimed?

Help!

Thanks,
Barry

Comment posted on Oct 09, 2008 I called HP and solved the issue by forcing the initiating process of the C7280. They told me that my printer didn't recognize the new print color cartridge I installed, so the tech support guy said that we had to make it recognize it by having me me push star and pound together and then go through the trouble shooting which I forgot how, but you can call 18004746836 and ask for tech support and give them this number 8016926730 and they will help you walk through the troubleshooting method that helped me solve my problem.

How do I fix "ink system failure oxc18a0206" message on my HP Photosmart C7280 all-in-one?

Hopefully, this link will take you to the proper troubleshooting page.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c03081973&lc=en&product=3204785&tmp_track_link=ot_search#N213

You'll click on the third plus sign on the page (+) because your message DOES include the words "ink system failure."

From there, you'll choose, by looking at the pictures, whether your printer has a removable print head.

You'll click on the appropriate answer -- yes it does, or no it doesn't,

Then, you'll identify which print cartridges your system uses, and THAT will take you to the proper troubleshooting steps for your printer's specific configuration.

The fix may be something you've already tried -- turning off the printer and unplugging it (but did you unplug it from BOTH the unit AND the wall, and then did you wait at least 15 seconds?), or the fix may be to service the printer.

Good luck! :)

Response by Ezrahite did not fit the printer but, rather, describe earlier HP printers with ink cartridges fitted on a carriage and movable. the HP C7280 has six fixed ink cartridges - immovable and not on...

ink system failure is pertaining to the printhead,it maybe clogged or already damaged ,usually printhead has life shelf,it can print up to 11000 copie after that symptom will show... you have to replace it it serves as a pen it is the one that submits ink to the paper ...also try to do power reset, turn off printer, unplug power cable at the back, unplug cable in the outlet wait 30 secs plug it back in then power on... you may call hp 18004746836 to order new printhead

Hp deskjet c7280 giving a error 0xc180501 what to do?

Hi,

I myself have not tried this, but apparently it came from HP.

HP Photosmart C5180 show ink system failure message
This was what I was told to do for my C5180. First they told me to do a power drain. This is done by pulling out the power cable and then holding the on/off button for a minute, then putting the power cable back in (this didn't work).
Then we did a master reset. Unplug the printer, then pressing the help and ok buttons simultaneously plug it back in. This sorted it.
Have to say it looked like this whole process used up shed loads of ink, so by the time I had finished I needed to replace 3 cartridges!

Thanks,
Bhautesh.

Ink system failure on my HP C7280

Hello,

The 'ink system failure' is caused by air in the ink feed tubes. This problem caused by either a poorly refilled ink cartridge or by fully using all of the ink in the cartridge and then the unit sucks up air instead of ink. You will need to purge the air from the ink lines to clear the error. We have a step by step guide posted in an article on our web site at: http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/category/printer-repair/hp-printer-repair/ The purge will take about 5 -10 minutes to perform and sould get you back printing.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

HP Photosmart C7280 Ink System Failure

I foun the solution here: http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/printer/54675#31

By Terry Richardson: I just had this exact issue with my C7280. I called HP Tech support, got a body in Bangalore or someplace, and was pleasantly surprised that they were prompt and knowledgeable, and solved the issue very quickly after transferring my call one time to a hardware support expert.

Here are the details. Got the Ink System Failure message. The error code shows was '0xc18a0005'. The tech had me press and hold the '*' key on the key pad, then press the '#' key and release them both. Then he had me enter '123' to enter maintenance mode. He then had me press the right arrow (beside the OK button) until System Config. menu appeared on panel. Then pressed OK two times to clear the error condition, then cancel two or three times to return to the top menu. Then powered off and back on, printed a test page just fine, copied a document fine.

I hope this help those who have similar issues.
