Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

1 Answer

Xbox 360 console video failure

I was happily playing along when the screen flickered and lost picture quality.

I switched the cosole off and back on again but no image came back. there was no sound either. after a minute of dumbfounded staring the tv auto shutdown timer began. so nothing was getting through to the TV.

I checked to make sure everything was plugged in correctly, still no image.

No red rings what so ever, the console looked like it was starting up correctly.

I changed the component cables from HD to TV and plugged this into the normal vide and also tried this withthe scart plug. no joys.

Went to the store and replaced my component cables, tried all as above. Still no joy.

Took xbox to store to try on their TV, also no joy.

Call to Microsoft, advises warranty run out and to send in but will cost at least £70. Might as well buy a new Arcade pack and just plug in my harddrive. Gives me a new warranty and the HDMI input.

I also noticed that when i changed the component cable from HD to TV and vice versa, the console rebooted itself like normal so I am completely confused as to where the problem lies?!

thanks for your help.

Yea, I think i got mine round about the same time.

The console is getting on a bit... I've kinda resigned to the fact that i'm gonna have to buy a new Xbox but thought I would see if there was any bit of help before i spend the cash...

I don't get it. is this the problem with my xbox? is the soldering all messed along with the x-clamp?

I've had my xbox since September 06.

We can fix this problem, its more than likely a fault which is very similar to the dreaded 3rrod (even though no red rings are present).

I have seen this error before and we can fix this by re-seating all the solder and replacing the x-clamp. we also do a couple of other fixes at the same time to try to stop this happening in future. our website is www.fixmyconsole.co.uk if you need help and i will knock £5 off any repair for all fixya customers.

First thing to try is another video cable. Do you have friend with the same cosole? If so, try it with their leads and see what the result is. If it still doesn't work, then your console will need repairing.

Xbox shuts down when playing game, when playing nuts and bolts, everytime I enter a gameworld the xbox 360 freezes on loading and fan shuts off

This i have seen before and it tells me the machines is displaying the signs of lead free solder failure (85%sure). you could strip the machine down and replacing the x-clamps at the same time do the heatgun fix if you dont have access to an IR oven.
To me it will just get worse and will definately need the x-clamps replacing AND the solder re-seating.

Its probably the GPU which is at fault, the 360 will happily run ok normally but when you start a game which requires HEAVY gfx it will just pack in

hope that helps in some way

Xbox 360 plays for a few minutes and then the screen goes black with no sound or picture.

your graphics processor IC chip needs its solder joints reflowing, and the heatsink re securing.

This will solve the problem.

No video or sound.

This is usually caused by a bad graphics card on the xbox. It isn't always detected by the xbox motherboard. I'm sorry to say, but it's pretty much toast unless you can find a repair guy in your area to solder on a new vga card.

Xbox 360 flickers across screen

it is your av cable however the components in the cable get a small static boost when u are using your controller so it becomes an intermittent fault ie;....when in game vidios or watching dvds, u rarely use the controller so u dont see the flickering and u only see it when in game play because u are in constant contact with the controlls and the components inside the av cable recieve a small static boost causing the interference.
