Question about Omron E2K-C25MY1 Proximity Switch

1 Answer

Proximity Switch faulting out irregulary

What: Omron E2K-C25MY2 Capacitive Proximity Switch
Problem Summary:
I have the switch wired in series with a manual on/off switch to a time delay that controls a motor starter.
When I turn the manual switch to the off position and back on, the light on the proximity switch is dull red. I have to wave my hand in front of the switch a few times for it to become bright red and function properly.
Also, after the light becomes bright red, the switch will work properly for 50+ cycles and then become dull red again, requiring me to wave my hand in front to reset it.
This condition has occurred on 2 brand new switches and I've tried wiring into both sides of the manual switch.
Please help.
Thank you,
Stephen

I dont know what the inviroment is but it sounds like a plant of some sort, the inviroment is important and the electrical service is important. There could be serveral issues here. I would check the electrical service for phase balance and investigate harmonics created through electronics.

2859 -- water pump switch blows the fuse. what is the correct wiring?

The switch is in series with the power and the pump motor. If the switch is across the power it will do what you state blow the fuse. It is also possible the pump motor is bad. I am assuming this happened when you changed the switch and the motor is OK.

Wiring diagram for a canal r series switch

There are several R series switches:
http://www.canal.com.tw/images/products/r.htm
Each appears to have terminal, or solder connections.
Electrician uses multimeter set to read ohms to check continuity of unknown switch.
Set to read ohms, and then test each terminal with other terminals, then flip the switch and repeat same test.
Then connect Hot wire to one terminal on the switch.
For example if there are two wires going to a 120Volt light bulb ... then one wire is Hot and the other Neutral. Cut the Hot wire and then connect the two cut ends to switch terminals. So the switch will turn the Hot wire on-and-off.
The neutral wire is not connected to the switch.

How to install 692 series light switch

P&S 692 is pilot light switch.
Pilot light requires neutral wire. Neutral wires are white wires twisted together and covered with wire nut located in back of electric box.
P&S 692 wires same as Cooper 277

VCMA-15 Have a catch pan overflow switch which goes in series with the thermostat circuit, but there are two low voltage wires coming from the pump and these have been connected together since installation...

You should have it wired in series with the wire on the 'R' terminal of the control board to the thermostat. Usually the red wire. This will shut down the complete system if the pump fails. The pan switch should be wired this way also, so they can both be in series with each other.

Can you please let me know how to wire in a GSW-31 pull chain switch interupter. Thankyou

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
You wire it up in series... Usually you cut the black wire and install the switch wires between the cut wires. All the switch does is open 1/2 of the circuit. (one leg) If your power wire is not black then find the power wire attach one side of the wire to incoming power and attach the other side of the switch to the load / light / fan / what ever.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

The Leviton page for Leviton 5613 does not have a troubleshoot.
Manual shows simple wiring diagram.
3-way switches will not operate lights if switches are wired incorrectly.
Check your ground wire is connected.
Leviton 5613 series is illuminated.
Check that both switches have 5613 number.
Swap switches and see if problem is inside switch.

Light switch not working

Do you have a voltage proximity tester? You can buy one of these at Home Depot or Lowe's for under $20. Following the directions for use in its manual, use it to make sure there is power to the switch. If there is not, make sure the breaker is not off or tripped. If there is power, turn the switch to on and make sure there is power coming out of the switch. If there is not, it is a bad switch (i know it is new, but sometimes they are no good). If there is power coming out of the switch, check to make sure there is power at the fixture. If there is not, you have a break in the wire somewhere that you will have to track down. If there is power, Check to make sure the make-up in the wires is still good by giving the wires a little tug in the wire nuts. If the make up is good, it is either a bad lamp or a bad ballast. Replace the lamp if you can; if that does not solve it, you may need a new ballast.

If all else fails, call the electrician.

Hope this helps,
matt
