How do I attach lens cap string?!!!
This sounds so silly. But can't work out how to attach supplied lens cap string to lens cap. New Leica D-Lux 4. The string seems to be in a sealed loop. If I push it through the holes on the lens cap, I have two short looped ends. I assume the string is supposed to attach to the lugs for the camera strap, to attach it to the camera, but can't see how if it is in a sealed loop to start with. The two looped ends are too short to attach. Anyone done this?! Assume it is the same for all Leica lens caps that come with a string attachment. Think it could be quite useful (if I can work it out) so as not to lose clip on lens cap. Many thanks in anticipation.

- Thank you so much! The photography is a piece of cake - just a simple niggle. V grateful for your assistance.Jan 24, 2009
- Got it! The diagram in the Leica handbook is very little help. If anyone else has the same problem, here's what you do.
1) Leave the string joined together as it is, in a loop
2) Fold it in half and push the double width throught the hole in the lense cap (it comes out of the second hole, so is 'looped' throught the lens cap.
3) Pull it through so equal lengths each side, then open one end of the double string and put the whole lens cap through this loop, then pull string tight. The lens cap is now attached to the string.
4) Repeat the same thing with the strap lug on the side of the camera nearest to the flash. ie fold the string in half (one end has the attached lens cap, the other end is double-width stringth with a bend at the end). Push the double width through the lug, pulling it through far enough that you can open the double width string, and again, put the whole lens cao through the double width string.
The string is now looped through both the lug and the lens cap, attaching them.
So much for technology :-)

unloop it from the lens cap... there should be a small opening on one corner of the camera .... push the loop thru that ... then loop it thru the cap... that should hold it.... horrid instructions but hopefull you get the idea
