Question about Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS / 1000D IS Digital Camera

1 Answer

Keep getting ERR99 when i take my first shot after switching on.

The ERR99 message reads shooting is not possible. Turn the power switch to off and on again or re-install the battery. If i open the battery door and close it again the camera will work fine but if i turn it off i will get the same problem again. Is this a setting problem or has something gone wrong with the camera

For you to have a very good idea what the problem is. do this first
    1. Format the card.
    2. Take several pictures after formatting
    3. Turn the camera off-on.
    4. Take your first shot.
    5. Take note of the number
    6. Turn it off again.
    7.  Turn it on again.
    8. Take a Shot. and this time it will display the Err 99

A work around here is when you turn off-on the camera, delete the first shot (the number at step 5) and it should continue shooting.
however if you turn it off and on again. the same shi+ happens all over again

    in adition...
change any settings in your camera. turn off again. when you turn it on, you will notice you will still have the same settings.

My best guess to fix this problem is to remove and reinstall the internal battery. They said this will reset all setting in the camera...

I haven't tried this yet because it may compromise the terms in the warranty...

    good luck

ERR99 means the camera is not communicating with the lens - probably just dirty contacts.

To isolate the cause of the issue, do the following: -
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
4. Insert only a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

Does the “ERR 99" message appear? If so, the camera may be faulty and requires a service. If it does not, then: -
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Turn on the camera.
4. Format the CF card in the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

Does the “ERR 99" message appear? If so, then the CF card is faulty. Try a different card. If the message does not appear: -
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Clean the gold contacts on the lens by GENTLY rubbing them with a pencil eraser or soft cloth. Keeping the camera face pointing down, also clean the gold contacts on the camera, being careful that you do not let any debris fall into the camera body.
3. Reattach your lens.
4. Turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

If the “ERR 99" message only appears when one particular lens is attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.
If you see the “ERR 99" with a different Canon lens attached, then the camera is faulty and should be serviced.

Err99 when taking pics in sun. Taking in side with flash fine, pics outside at night are fine?

Error code 99 indicates detection of a system malfunction. Try switching on the camera and while it is still switched on remove the battery. Leave it for about 30 secs then re-insert the battery once powered up switch the camera off wait 30 secs then switch it on again. This action sometimes will remedy this problem but failing that it may need a visit to the repair shop.

When i turn on my camera i get a e24 on the screen

In one of my canon manuals is says about E.. (see the little dots)

Camera malfunctioned. Turn off the power and turn on again, then re-shoot or play back. If the same message recurs frequentely, the camera may be damaged. Note down the error number [xx] and take the camera to a custumer support help desk. If this message happens immeadiately after you have taken a shot, the camera may not have shot the picture. Switch to play back mode and check whether the image was actually recorded.

Sorry if I can't help you more, but Canon does not give more information.

I have a canon 350D and Problem is err99.when I try to snap at wide angle ,it displays err99.

The most common issue that brings about the Err99 is an issue between the lens and the body, but it could actually come from a variety of problems.

Two things you could do:
1) Clean the contact points on both the Camera and your lens (be careful not to get any dirt into your camera - best to hold it in the air facing down when you are cleaning it)
2) Remove your batteries and memory cards (most cameras also have a small battery for the Date/Time), turn the switch on for a minute or so, then turn it off and replace the batteries and memory cards

I know the original 300D and even the 350D had a very limited shutter lifespan, if you've had the camera for a long while and have taken many pictures it is possible that this may be related to your issue.

Err 99

well i have so far fixed 6 with this trick yours could be 7
Remove the lens and hold it mount down but at a heightwhere you can see the pins. Take a pencil with an eraser on the end and rub the pins, taking car no rubber its get into the mount mkechanism. ( that's why it should be mount down)

Now do the body the same cleaning the pins inside the camera by liughtly rubbing the eraser and taking care not to get any swarf into the camera workings.
Use a vacuum blower or a can of compressed air ( better in case vacuum tube has dust left inside it) and blow both lens and body free of any debris that "might have got into it>
Re assemble, turn on and if you have done it right.. no 99 error.

err99 is a generic error code that the camera cannot identify to a particular component.

One thing to try is to switch off, remove the lens and clean the gold contacts on the camera and lens.

This is a common cause for err99 and in a lot of cases cures the problem

When I turned the power on I get a error message E005

I am not sure but their may be a couple of ways to turn of the system. First shot it down with the switch then when it is powered down unplugg it. Wait a minute then plug it back in then turn it back on. this is just a first low teck solution may prove to be nothing of help.
