    Thanks for your reply n4bme.

But, what is the solution to the problem?

On my computer the yellow cable was used to set up the original internet connection and then discarded which means I have only the grey cable from my computer to the phone socket.

On the computer mentioned as soon as the yellow cable is disconnected the internet is not available.

The ISP is the Post Office.

Neither of us are computer ' savvy '

The grey cable and the yellow cable perform the same function depending on where you get your internet service from. From what you describe you are using a cable or dsl connection.
The Yellow cable from router to computer carries your internet.
The grey cable is plugged into phone jack not router and is used for dial up internet and receiving/sending faxes.

best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

I have a evesham 8615 and it does not boot up changed the hard drive, but still not working, the lights are on but the hard drive one does not work, and it did when it was working before, thats the green...

Hmm...Have you tried booting from another device (such as a flash drive, or even cd drive)? If you can boot from another device, then you are probably looking at connection problem between the motherboard, and the hard drive. If you cannot boot from any device, then your probably having a bigger problem. One thing that might not be working properly could be your BIOS. Those are the first things I would check into.

From the walljack to the modem, use the gray cable.

Disconnect the yellow cable from the modem to the PC.

Use the black cable from the router to the modem (where the PC was originally connected).

Use the 2 yellow cables for the PC and the laptop going to any of the 4 ports of the router.

Hope this helps!

Evesham 8615 Gtk laptop

What brand is it? You should be able to find drivers at the manufacturers site. If it's a 'white box' unbranded laptop you'll need to know what brand the motherboard is and go from there.
