Hi,
If you go into device manager [Right click My Computer > Manage]
Then in the right hand window click the + button next to 'Disk Drives'
Then right click your hard drive > Properties
There will be a tab at the top of the new window called 'Policies' and change it to 'Optimize for quick performance'
apply that and restart you computer and it will not be in the quick removal list...
Let me know... Matt

On Excel 7, before remoing the usb (removable stick. what are the steps

It's always a good practice to safely remove your USB flash drive before unplugging it from your computer. This prevents data loss and extends the life of your external storage device. Removing a flash drive from your computer is very easy and doesn't take a long time to do.

Close all files you accessed from the flash drive. This is necessary for the device to be removed properly. Don't forget to save your files before closing the files. Right-click the "USB" icon marked with a checkmark. It is located on the bottom right of your taskbar. From the pop-up menu, click "Safely Remove Hardware." A small window will be displayed. Select the USB flash drive you want to unplug then click the "Stop" button. A confirmation window will appear. Click the appropriate hardware device, then click "OK." The "Safe to Remove Hardware" window will inform you that it's now safe to unplug the USB flash drive from your computer. Click "OK," then click "Close."

I have recently recieved an HP Compaq DC7100 from my company. It currently seems to have Win. 2000. When I try to hit F8, etc while its booting to go into setup and says a file is missing and I must put in...

first open cpu cabinet and check RAM memroy refix ram memory.
When you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or "del" key to enter in bios.
Then load optimal defaults. then save and exit.
This error comes when there is error on harddisk or motherbord chipset issue.
For fix error on harddisk you have to run "chkdsk /r"
command but if you not even reach to that stage then there is issue with motherbord .
But first try to delete all partition on harddisk if data is not important.
Then run setup of winxp again.
Let me know if you need more assistance.
Thanks.

dear mary,

it may be the case that the harddisk you want to install the new windows version to
is either full or has bad sectors in it,
in both cases it is necessary to fully erase all data and format it, before installing the new Operation System!

you perhaps can try to install win2000,
let it remove any existing installations and partitions(blank the disk) from the harddisk, then run a chkdsk scan from the recovery console, format the disk afterwards and quit without installing fully.
Now you can choose your desired windows version.
It could make sense not to install a later win than win xp home, for this machine is more than a decade old and therefore remarkably slow. Use Win2000 Professional edition if you can get a hold of a copy.

IBM Netvista 6059 - Can't upgrade to windows XP

Right well XP Pro really MUST be formatted with NTFS only... I suggest you get a third party partitioning program like Partition magic and completely remove the partition & redo it all again & this time Format NTFS. Or if ya have a WIN98 boot disk, and ya can use FDISK, Delete ALL partitions, and remake them again, using all the disk space, then format as NTFS, then proceed as below Then using your windows XP PRO setup Disk, start the install ...then when asked about where you want the install located, select C & REFORMAT it AGAIN with the windows setup using again NTFS file system... this should finish & then the Install should "see" your entire hard drive and format it accordingly and then when finished you can proceede to install XP.
