My HP computer was working fine when all of a sudden the screen on the Samsung SyncMaster 731 monitor went black. I thought the problem was with the computer, but when I turned the computer off, the screen flashed Check Signal Cable. I hadn't changed anything. Same thing happened about six months ago, and thinking the computer was the problem, a friend cleared the computer and rebooted everything (I'm no computer techie, so I may be describing this incorrectly.) At that time, no "Check Signal Cable" sign came on, just the "analog, digital" square in the top left hand corner.

Several months ago, the monitor went black, but because the analog/ digital sign showed on the top left corner, I figured the computer was the problem, not the monitor, so someone cleared my computer and put all the programs back on. I've been using the computer since then, but today, the screen went black again. This time, after I turned the computer off, the monitor flashed the sign "Check signal cable." (I'm no tech person, so I may not have described this correctly.)

Several months ago, my monitor went blank, but because the analog/digital sign still flashed in the upper left hand corner, I figured the computer, not the monitor, was the problem, so a friend reloaded all the programs on my computer. Today, the monitor went blank again, but this time when I turned off the computer, the monitor flashed the sign "Check signal cable." As far as I can tell, I hadn't changed anything, and the two cords from the monitor were still plugged in at both ends. (I'm no computer techie, as you can see from my name.)

Typically this happens when the resolution of the display is out of range of the monitor. Normally this is when the resolution is too high. Have you changed the resolution settings? Also, not to be crass, but if there a video card in the system, be sure that you are connected to the correct VGA connector. With an extra card in the system, the onboard VGA connector is not used.

Keep us posted,
Dan

Hi, what was the LCD displaying is that he is not sensing any signal from the computer video port that is why it is prompting "check signal cable". Have you tried checking the pins of your video cable from your LCD? if OK please plug in the cable again when your PC is already open to check that signal will pass thru and lets see what happen. If still the same, try to isolate it with laptop as external video if you have to check the LCD will work with other PC. If the same, replace the signal cable of your LCD if it is removable to further check the problem.

The message says that the monitor doesn't receives signal - which is normal. Since the problem appears only after you plug in the cable in means that the problem is located there - something is wrong with your pc, most likely the video card has died.
