SOURCE: My troy-bilt 8.5 horse 26 inch wide snowblower wont move anymore.

Take the belt cover off that covers the drive pulley on the engine. You should only have to loosen two bolts. Inspect the belt to see what it looks like. I am not sure if it drives a gear box or if it turns a friction wheel that drives the wheels. If the belt looks good check for shear bolts that might have sheared off and replace them.

Troy Bilt 3090 snowblower surges off choke, doesnt surge on choke, cleaned the carb, jets, float, drained tank, cleaned fuel filter, fresh gas, still surges. Could it be the governor or idle jet?l

you could try opening up the idle/mixture screw another turn to make the transmission from idle to throttle better
governors just open the throttle butterfly according to the spring tension setting from the throttle lever

My Troy bilt squall 2100 snowblower does not idle steady. It races and slows while idling.

It sounds like the carb needs cleaning and readjusting, or the fuel filter is clogged. Good-Day! Remove and clean out carb, it may be dirty inside.

Oil for a snapper snowblower 16223

I found the manual for you snowblower, and it's a two stage snowblower, so I am assuming you need two stage oil. Ultimately you need to get that information from the engine manual, and you haven't provided the engine information in you posting. This is the link for the blower manual:

The ground broke off of the electric starter of my troy-bilt storm 2480 snow blower. Is there a way to fix it other than buying the $230 dollar replacement part?

You could just connect it as usual but provide a wire with an alligator clip on one end and the other end connected to the bare ground wires in the outlet box whenever you need to start the snowblower. An alternative ground location that is often easier for homeowners to access is to connect it to a cold water copper pipe, the external, visible ground point near the electric service, water main, cable TV, telephone, etc. Some states permit iron gas lines to serve as ground too. Check with your wiring inspector or local electrician to see what is acceptable in your town. Whichever way you choose to access ground, add this wire without disconnecting any of the others.

Once you have it wired up, the procedure is pretty simple really - you would first connect the alligator clip end of the ground wire to an unpainted, solid part of the snowblower's engine, starter motor or frame. Then plug in the power cord the way you did before the ground was broke off (orient the cord / plug as if the ground were still present). Press and hold the start button as usual until it starts. Once running, remove the 120 volt power cord first - then disconnect the grounded alligator clip. The ground clip must always be first on - last off. This way, at no time is the snowblower ungrounded when it is connected to 120 volts.

Of course, some folks will say you don't have to have a ground connected. True, it will work / start without the ground wire - but you do give up a bit of safety by ignoring it. The ground is to protect people from electrical faults - its presence does NOT effect the ability of the starter to function. I wouldn't dream of spending $230 to replace the starter just because it is missing ground wire (because it is so easy to get around the problem with my simple little fix) but I would only start it w/o the grounded alligator clip wire if I had too. For maximum protection, you should be connecting the snowblower to a ground fault protected outlet when using the electric start regardless of whether or not you're using the ground wire alligator clip.

Good luck!
