SOURCE: how to fix digital camera canon ixus 70 'lens

Would not recommend opening the camera as the chances are much greater for you causing greater damage. BUT would instead recommend that you try the seven sequential repair step outlined for a lens error in the below listed Related Link "Fixing a Lens Error on a Digital Camera". None of the steps outlined in this link involve opening the camera. and reportedly you should have close to a 50% chance of success with these techniques.

If you cannot repair the lens yourself with the first related link, then consider trying the two 'Digital camera repair" links below for two online digital camera repair businesses.

Have same problem as above. Apparently the gears in the lense slip a tooth, they can be re-aligned but this involves taking out the barrel, my question is, how do you do this as I don't want to pay Canon the AU$250 for a new barrel.

SOURCE: Canon IXUS 100IS - 'Lens error, restart camera' message

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

The problem is that the camera cannot open the front eye, when you turn on the camera it does not come out. and at the end it say lens error, restart camera, but still do the same thing. help cause i want...

Its a common error with cameras with retractable lenses. It could be a grain of sand stuck in the slide parts of the lens. Another cause is accidentally pressing the ON button when the camera is in its case.

The solution is usually "helping" the camera lens to come out. This is a tricky job because it requires putting pressure (by pulling) on sensitive lens parts. If you're not comfortable with that, ask someone else to have a look at it.

I've had one IXUS 860 which could not be recovered from the lens error. The second IXUS 860 had the same error - the lens however moved finally after turning the cap for a bit. In the first case it was sand. In the second had tried to push the lens out while in its case - the ON button was pressed.

Canon Ixus 860 lens

hi
If your lens comes out and retracs during power on or off then the spring that closes the lens is either broken or off trac. If you are within warranty period and able to open the case then it should be an easy fix. If not then you would have to get it repaired.
all the best.
thankyou.
