Wi-Fi signal strenght depends a lot on where your PC is located if you are not getting 100% signal strength try moving it to someplace where there not much obstacles to interupt the signal.

My laptop works using my Belkin router, but my desktop will not connect to the internet

hello

your notebook has WiFi, which is radio frequency internet, it transmits and receives radio signals (frequencies) . Your desktop, most likely, does not support WiFi on its own , so you need to use RG45 cable , ethernet cable to be connected from your desktop to the router.
lan-cable-rg45-cat5e-cat6-utp-ftp-acr2101-.jpg

So in other words thsi is what happens with your notebook and the router.
  1. your notebook has built in wireless adapter which translates data into a radio signal and transmits it using an antenna.
  2. A wireless router receives the signal and decodes it. The router sends the information to the Internet using a physical, wired Ethernet connection, to your modem (supplied by your Internet Service Provider)
The process also works in reverse, with the router receiving information from the Internet, translating it into a radio signal and sending it to the computer's wireless adapter.

The radios used for WiFi communication are very similar to the radios used for walkie-talkies, cell phones and other devices.

you need to connect your desktop to the router via RG45 ethernet cable.

I am using 802.11b/g wireless lan. my signal

Hi,

Increasing signal may increase speed, but getting closer to the router would yeild the same result iif that is going to work. You would do it by going to the management page for your router, and adjusting the "antenna" or "signal" strength to maximum.

On a linksys the default ip for that page is 192.168.1.1, on other routhers you can look it up in the paperwork or on the manufacturers website.

Hope this helps!!

My plasma sometimes turns on and sometimes it dosen't

Here are two things to look for.
1. the on indicator, Is it green or yellow?..
2.What is the teprature of the room the screen is in. They don't like the heat.
If it is yellow you are not recieving signal from the computer either by a faulty connection or the high memory is full. Go to start then right click on my computer, scroll down to .properties and click. The computer will display your high memory or RAM. In most cases you will need to increase your ram size. Good luck..take care... Mark
