You just use a knife or if you have a swiss knife its better. The cover of your pocket watch its like a clip look at the side of pocket watch there is a marker its like pinch mark put the blade of the knife push it then twist to open .When open already try to watch out not touch it the coil (bronze color) its very sensitive, when touch its easly to break causing to malfuntion. When battery is already change going to close look the gasket for properly place.

Hope it may help you

What type of battery does an ebel (feman) watch use?

ebel keeps that a secret they have a marking on there batteries mine 690 but there is no such after market replacement with this number. ( ebel wants to be the only game in town/ world ) but if you want to replace it your self, witch will void your warrenty 'says' ebel. take the battery out and take it to a jewelry store, and they can match it up ( $5.00 to $6.00 ) or pay $240.00 to ebel to "service" it. clean / new gaskel / batt witch ebel says is necessary to change batt. every 3 years or so. do not take the watch to the jewelery store only the battery , because know one will open it. they will want to send it out to ebel for service big $ also save old batt, because if you ever have to have the watch fixed put the old batt back in and hopefuly they wont notice. to get the battery out read my instructions i have posted its easy. other posts i have read on replacing batt, they don't know what they are talking about. do NOT remove anything but the bezel only. please Read hope this helps you out.

Need to replace battery in my Colibri pendant watch. Can't figure out how to open case to change it.

Thank you for contacting FixYa.
  • Place the tip of your pocket knife in the slot on the back of the watch. Pry the back off.

  • Take your tweezers and grasp the metal piece that is hiding the battery.

  • Once that metal piece is out the battery should come out too.

  • Put the new battery in and cover it with the metal piece.

  • Put the back of the watch back on and snap it into place.

  • Best wishes. Jewel

Looking for an instruction manual for a diesel

Hi, I just picked up this same watch from Ebay and it came with a standard diesel operating instruction book. I haven't read it yet, but if you want me to look anything up for you, please ask. As it turned out my watch need new batteries when it arrived, so the jeweller who fitted the batteries set all the functions for me.
    Thanks,
    Paul

I have an Illinois pocket watch and I can't figure out how to open it to get the proper info to look it up. Can you help me plz?! Thank you

    The back screws off.
    Turn it Counter clockwise.

The numbers you need is the actual serial number off of the movement not the case.

We then can provide you the production information on your particular run of antique pocket watch.

    Hope this tip helps.

I need to open the back of an Elgin pocket watch to find the production number, there is no obvious way to access it. It is a very old watch

The back screws off counter clock wise.

If you will post the ser number off the movement we can tell you almost all production information about this watch.

    Hope this tip helps.

How to get the back open to see the timepiece mechanism

Take an eyeglass and examine watch caseback. You should see the tiny groove. This is exact point where to insert openers blade and pry the caseback up.

I have a cheap pocket watch that needsa new battery, and i do not know how to open it. does not look like the kind of back that wil pop off, could it be a screw on type?

Pocket watches are 99% with the back snap-on/sanap-off opening. Never came across the screwback. Get the knife with the solid blade, insert the blade in the groove between the case and the caseback and push it in quite hard using lever action (pry up). At the same time make sure the blade do not slip into the movement, as it will damage your watch.
If there is no groove between the case and the caseback, then watch must be opened by removing bezel (metal ring holding glass in place). Open the same way as for the caseback, just be VERY carefull, as any slip of the blade will leave the marks on dial.
