Sounds like high swr. If using a mag mount antenna; check for a proper ground by cleaning the antenna base and the place where you put the antenna. Any other antenna; check the place where the whip goes into the coil at base of the antenna. Make sure that antenna has good ground. Check continuity of the pl259. Make sure there is a good connection and no opens or shorts. Hope it helps.

SOURCE: antenna light still on

The antenna warning light on the Cobra 29 LTD has a pot ( varabile resistor ) that sets the senativity of the light coming on. If you open the radio, you'le see the pot at the back of the radio. It's the last pot in the rear of the chassis Simply turn it more torward the center of the setting ( anyplace is ok as it means nothing to the preformance of the radio ). The light won't come on unless the SWR's are high. Good Luck and if I can help more, you can email me at this address or at my email address wyoed1@aol.com.

SOURCE: cb radio

Most of the time this indicates a bad swr. You may have a poor ground or a bad cable. See more about swr here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standing_wave_ratio

You may need to lengthen or shorten the antenna but you should have a swr meter to do this in the frequency you are testing. At radio shack they should have one for cb.

Hope this helped

You should refrain from transmitting until you get the swr down to about 1.2:1 or close.

SOURCE: cobra 29 ltd classic cb not transmitting

Check the ground. Make sure its grounded well on bare metal. To see if the ground is bad, or not making good connection, disconnect the antenna and turn it on. if it does not power up, that means your ground is bad, and it was grounding only through the antenna.

Make sure not to key up with out the antenna connected.

SOURCE: I installed a browning br-51 cb antenna on my cb radio.

You need to shorten the antenna, adjust the whip all the way down and see what you have and then cut off 1/4" at a time remember this low on 1 high on 40 it needs to be lengthened high on 1 low on 40 it needs to be shortened . I hope this helps and good luck.

Antenna red light comes on when mike is keyed. Radio checked, no problems. Installed in Mack 2012 Pinnacle Dump truck

there are two lights for the antenna.when you are transmitting the top light will change from green to red the bottom shouldn't be on.this is the awi light. it means there is a problem with the antenna system, and you should get it checked. It could be the antenna swr ,bad coax,or the radio.Since you can't do anything with the coax or radio it has to be done with the antenna. Get a real SWR meter and check the SWR or have a tech do it. If the SWR is ok then your antenna just might be in the wrong spot ,or it may need to be grounded A tech will tell you the problem as soon as he puts his meter on it.

Cb radio transmitting problems

Check your microphone and the SWR on the antenna.
SWR checks or bench checks should be free at a RadioShop or CBshops, and normally they will only charge for parts needed.

When I key up on my cobra 29 Ltd my swr goes up to the red.. Is that normal and if not where should it be and how do I correct it to where it should be

Its hard to tell, but it looks like your meter switch is in the Calibrate position.
Also while keying in this position I noticed you meter had not reached the correct calibrate point on the meter.
First you switch your meters control switch (the 2 switch) to CAL, then using your SWR calibration knob you move the meter until it matches with the CAL knotch on the meter itself.
After it is as perfectly lined up as you can get it, move the meters control switch to SWR mode, then key down again.
This should give you the accurate reading of your radio's SWR's.
If they are still to high then your having 1 of 3 issues.
(1). Your antenna is not tuned
(2). Your antenna's mounting bracket is not making a good ground with the vehicle.
(3). You my have a coax issue or a bad connection between the radio 7 the antenna itself.
Now if you have anymore questions I recommend you visit my facebook page, a cb club made for beginners to the cb radio hobby.
I can answer all questions you might have, even walk you through how to tune your antenna.

I can only hear the others. When I talk they can't hear and my red anntenna keeps coming on when I push button to talk.

Assuming the antenna is mounted and grounded correctly, when you try to transmit/talk does your meter needle move to the right with your voice,if it doesn't make sure meter knob is set to receive/transmit or mod[modulate] does it move to right now,if not make sure the mic gain knob is turned up or if it is a power mic,is it turned up&have a fresh battery. The antenna light could mean high swr readings which you will have to adjust by tuning the antenna with the radio meter or external meter, you can search swr adjustment on your computer if unfamiliar..some antenna warning lights are factory set too sensitive but most times are telling you there is a problem. If all is set&tuned properly and you still can't get a local signal to respond, your radios transmit finals could be blown, which you'll need a qualified radio tech to determine..Good luck& 73's

Just bought a cobra ltd crome ive mounted every thing how to i clibrate it with my attenna? when i key up both rx/tx and ant lights up red?????

This is a common misunderstanding when it comes to communications equipment. You don't tune the antenna to the radio, but rather you tune the antenna to the vehicle. the vehicle is the ground plane for your antenna system.

With that said You will need an SWR Meter between your antenna and Radio. follow the instructions for your meter for calibrating the meter and follow the instructions for your antenna for adjusting the length.

Check your antenna, have someone tap on it with a non-conductive stick (while standing several feet away) while you listen and watch the transmit for an intermittent problem coinciding with the tapping. If that checks good then check your coax and connectors.

Your panel meter may need a new lamp, an LED would last longer than an incandescent. Be sure to add a limiting resistor in series with an LED for 12vdc.

29 LTD CB Radio: Calibrate cb radio...

The CAL is to calibrate meter for reading SWR (standing wave ratio) which is reflected power when transmitting back to receiver(radio) from antenna system.
This CAL switch position when selected and mic keyed uses the CAL knob to align the meter needle with inverted red triangle next to cal on meter. Then when you select SWR switch position meter will display accurately when mic is keyed for that channel. Now notice the difference when you go between channels 1 and 40. The ant led light will act as idiot light if it is not lit then you are most likely safe to transmit.
I say system because your vehicle, antenna and coaxial cable are all part of this system. When you have a high reading and have to trim you antenna this is really calibrating the antenna to the vehicles body which acts as a ground plane.

Matching Antenna, or ??????

If the antenna is tunable, you definitely need to start out by having the swr set properly on the antenna. Also, make sure the plastic ferrel, (the small round white piece) is between the top of the antenna bracked and the antenna itself. It is there to make sure the antenna does not ground out to the vehicle. If the antenna is grounding out, it will be like no antenna at all. I have also had a few customers that have had broken coaxes straight out of the factory package on cheaper antenna setups.
