Inspection of the rear connector will reveal the answer. A SATA drive has a thin cable; an ATA drive cable is thicker (more pins)

SOURCE: How to replace my DVD drive?

well if you are going to buy one, i would go to www.newegg.com and see what they have. I am also assuming that you are comfortable opening your computer. When you get a new DVD drive open up your computer and look how the old one is connected(i would do that before you buy a new drive too) and if your connects the way i think it does it should have a ribbon (bunch of wires attached together in a line) that have a rectangular thing at the end that connects to the back of your drive and also it will have another set of wires that are multicolored that come from your power thing it will have 4 wires that connect to the back of the DVD drive, make sure both the ribbon and the power cables connect correctly to your new DVD drive. if they do great, you now would only have to take out the old drive and put in the old one(they usually attach to the computer case via screws on the side of the drive) once the old is out and the new is in you just plug in the cables(ribbon and power) and it should work.If the cables arent the same see if you can return it for one that would fit correctly. If you have any questions about my explanation ask (i am new to this and not all that great at giving organized instructions)

Usually means the media is not compatible or is caused due to a bad disc...changing the disc will eliminate the problem...it may be due to a bad brand of disc as well. Look at your disks are they + R or - R, Some burners even though they say +/- they have problems with + R disks and others with - R. Nero 7 and Realplayer have nothing to do with your problem. Try changing your media brand, I have good results with Sony.

Also burning to a folder then disk helps with this problem.

I have this message " SATA CD :: TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-U633J" What does it mean?

SATA : Serial ATA, the type of interface for the Drive as opposed to IDE (the older type.).
TSSTCorp is a joint venture Toshiba Samsung for Optical drives
CDDVD R-W CD and DVD Read Write.
TS-U633J is the model number. That is the reference you use if you are looking for drivers.
Why did this information get you worried?

My TSSTcorp TS-H653Q (dvd brrner) can't read cd, games or dvd. The drive appear on my computer(C:) but it cannot detect any disk inside... is there a driver problem or a compatibility with my OS? i use...

Go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Devices and Printer -> Device Manager -> locate DVD/CD-Rom drives and 'Uninstal' the driver for your TSSTcorp drive to force a re-install of the driver -> Go to the very top of the device manager tree (where the computer name appears), use the context menu and 'Scan for Hardware changes' -> this will re-install the DVD driver.
Hopefully this will solve your issue. If it does not, and your drive is 'old', then you have a possible defective drive (the laser unit does not last for ever and is usually the issue - it is not worth repairing the unit).
Hope it helps and let me know how you go: good luck!

What DVD burner should I put in my Dell E1505 Laptop

I'd get a double layer (dl) drive by Memorex from either Tigerdirect or NewEgg. They always have them on sale and all three of my systems have one installed.

Good luck,

Tsst-h652d not working after upgrade, thinks its a cdrom not combo

Well, I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. It was still worth a try. I have to agree with you. Since it isn't being recognized properly it probably isn't worth the trouble getting it repaired since typically that costs more than buying a new one. If you need to find some good prices on CD/DVD readers & burners you can look online here:

Newegg

Simply navigate to Computer Hardware > CD / DVD Burners & Media. After the page loads simply click, "CD / DVD Burners" located in the menu on the left.

Let me know if I can do anything else for you (posted as a solution so you could rate the responses above).
