Dear Madeline Birch,

I suggest, you use the laptop to format your card. The process is as follows.

- Insert the SD card in the SD Card slot available on your laptop. Enter My Computer, and right click on the icon which represents your card. Format it from there as you would do for any other USB data storage.

If you don't have a laptop, or your laptop doesn't have the SD Card slot. Then, you should purchase an SD Card reader. The process mentioned above would be similar.

If all fails. I recommend you to get another card, as the card may have been corrupted.

Hope I was able to sovle your problem.

Regards,

Rebel K

If your using more than 2GB of SD card or if yous using the SDHC card it will not format the Memory card.

Try to used the recommended Memory card 2GB or 1GB SD card It will reformat your card. Too Much or too High SD card is not compatible on DX camera series

You should probably get a USB card reader, take the card out of your camera, put in the card and connect it to the computer. Then try formating the card through Windows using the FAT file system (not NTFS).

SD Card Problems with Vivitar Vivicam 5118!

What size is the memory card. If it's larger than 4GB then it won't work in the 5118.
Try using another card. Don't format it in your computer but do format it in the camera before trying to take pictures.

My camera says the memory card is locked and memory card error appears when I turn on the camera. I've read that I have to format the card, but won't the photos be destroyed? How can I get my pictures

There is a tab on the memory card so you will you need to remove it from the camera and change the position of this tab to "unlock" it. DO NOT format the card until you've BACKED UP your files from it (typically to a PC or USB drive (stick or external hard drive).

Hello, I have a Lumix DMC-FS10, I have found that some of my photos have downloaded to thumbprint size which won't seem to go any bigger without distortion and some are normal I unfortunately deleted...

Actually, you still might be able to get those photos back, even though they've been erased. Try not to take any more pics until you've recovered your photos, take the card out of the camera. This is to reduce the chance of you overwriting some of your "lost" photos. There are many good freeware photo recovery software options that may help you recover your photos. This article reviews and outlines several of the better ones.
This sounds like the problem may have occurred because you might not have formatted the card in your camera as recommended by the manufacturer. If true, after you've recovered your photos, format the card in your camera using the camera's format feature. This will prevent this from happening again.

My blackberry curve 8310 recognises my memory card and says it needs to be formatted but when I go to options, media card and I click on format card nothing happens, the phone doesn't respond and I...

The only time I've see this happen, is when someone uses a memory card that's too large for that model of phone.

That phone can only handle a 4gb max memory card. Anything larger won't work, and can lock up the phone.

I have had my camera for 3 years but never had bought a memory card for it. I recently purchased one from Walmart. When i put the memory card in the digital display almost gets stuck and won't open so...

The camera takes SD cards up to 2GB (not SDHC cards). If you've been taking pictures using the camera's internal memory, you must first get rid of those pics. With no card in the camera, go into the menu and find "format" and follow the on-screen instructions. Then, insert your new card and go through the "format" routine again to prepare the new card.

My c703 won't format a new memory card. The old memory card is full (2GB), but I've tried two NEW Lexar 4GB cards and neither will format. Help!

Hi, The reason neither 4GB card will format is because that camera is only able to support, at most, a 2GB card. I'd suggest returning the 4GB card and getting another 2GB one.
