Question about Cooktops

Maytag electric cooktop popping breaker.

Not really sure how old the cooktop is but it came with the house when i bought it a few years back. It has worked fine with no issues for the last 5 years. I removed the cooktop 2 years ago when i replaced the counter top but that was all i did. Last week when i turned on a burner i noticed the burner light did not come on and the burner didnt heat. I went outside and checked the breaker and it was tripped. I reset the breaker and as soon as i did so i could hear a loud "pop" from inside the kitchen. I removed the service panal from the front of the unit to see if maybe a wire somehow got disconnected. All connections look fine. Replaced the breaker (30 amp) and it did not help. So now i know the issue is in the stove itself. I have a multimeter but honestly i am not too sure on how to use it. Any advise on hw or where to look for the problem?

The problem is most likely in the element in one of the coils, if they are the tube type and look like pencil thick heating elements, they can develope a short circuit inside them. The actual heating wire is encased with ceramic filler and then put in that tube. The heating wire moves when it gets hot and can work its way to the case and cause a short. Unhook the power from the whole unit and use the meter to check the rersistance of the coils between the heating element and the case

I was roasting a chicken in my Maytag Cooktop when I heard a loud buzzing and a "pop", all of the power in my house went out. Something had tripped the breaker. My husband reset the breaker but my stove...

there is a short for sure, sometimes when the heating element burns out and melts, it touches the metal inside the housing causing a short. inspect the heating elements in the oven(top and bottom). the loud buzzing sound is what a shorting out heating element makes as it melts like a weldin rod, usually because of using tin foil(not recommended)

Stove is tripping circuit breaker Two burners stopped working properly (only get slightly warm). Switched the coils to the other side and the other side is still working. Looked underneath and saw that...

if it is an old stove i would say have it serviced/checked over. if it is a newer stove i am guessing the circuit breaker predates it and is rated for the old stove therefore you will need to have a larger circuit breaker installed (by a licenced electrician)

make sure the heater elements are properly nested into their respective electrical sockets. if they get loose, then the electrical contact can be intermittent and arc/spark a bit..

Loud Pop, blown Breaker

Pull the unit away from the wall and inspect from rear. However, if all is fine, perhaps you simply overloaded the circuit that once. Were you running any other appliances (overhead microwave) at the same time?

Power button problem

Without being there to troubleshoot further, the first thing I'd recommend is checking the breaker. It'll most likely be in the breaker panel outside the house... in the BIG panel. This is a 240 Volt unit, so what you'll be looking for is a "dual" breaker. They'll be connected together.

I'll tell you what... here's the easy way to do it. Simply turn off, then turn on all the breakers in the big breaker box outside. Make sure you have all the computers turned off first, though. You might have to reset a few clocks, but that's OK. I'd bet this gets you cooking again. If not, post back.
