Question about Dirt Devil M085805 Upright Vacuum
When i vacuum my dirt devil will randomly shut off and wont turn back on until about an hour later. Then i'll start it up again and it'll go off after vacuuming for about 5 minutes. What do i do
It's overheating. Empty the cup and replace the filters. There's a breaker that opens up and turns it off when it gets too hot. When it cools down it closes back up and it will run again. It'll argue with you til the end of time or until you fix the problem.

I have this exact problem and have taken it completely apart multiple times and cleaned it completely. It is the automatic reset switch and if this starts happening to your vacuum it won't stop. Time to trade it out. Mine was only 6 months old and I could only vacuum for 5 min at a time. These were just a bad series of dirt devel vacuums and it's unfortunate because it works extremely well when it does work. It's just a factory mess up with the motor overheating. :( loved my dirt devel. They need to recall them and give us new ones!! #dirtdevil

Is the suction tubing in the head assembly clogged, is the belt broke? If the if the belt looks good the brush may be turned off and you may need to turn the brush switch on.

The electric motor has a thermal switch and is self-resetting so there is no re-set switch. Make sure the air filter for the exhaust is clean. Also make sure that the height adjustment is not too low causing strain on the motor. Always bring the height down to where the brushes just make contact with the carpet. It is possible that the thermal safety switch is tripping due to a bad switch. In that case I would contact Drit Devil if it is still under warranty.
