My AGP slot wont work. Video card overheats and computer stops. Tested video card on other computer, works fine.

Looks like it is probably a faulty motherboard. Do other AGP cards exhibit the same issue? Is the speed set correctly (AGP 4x 8x etc)?

Graphic card problem

Hi BIOS21, I know this much. I know you're motherboard can not use a PCI-Express video card. You're board can not support SLI. I know from looking & reading the manual for the MSI KM4-L you're board supports an AGP video card. I also know some AGP video cards need extra power for them to function. This varies from card to card. You did find an open power port on you're AGP NVIDA 6600 256MG 128bit card. So plug in the power cord. Every AGP card receives power from the AGP port. Enough to run the fan. Depending on the card it may also need more power provided by the system to function. This is you're case. The power connector would not be on the card if it was not needed. Other AGP cards use the same power cord as a floppy drive. (Just so you know).

System doesn't see AGP card

Hello flaxx

I believe you'll need to find a way to disable your integrated (onboard) video in the BIOS. I know there isn't a direct way to do it but, please, see the next link. The user there found a way.

HERE is the way another user accomplished this task. (disabling onboard video). It concerns a different Asus motherboard but, I checked your motherboard manual, those same features are available.

HERE is the AsusTek forum for your motherboard. You can search and post here. There will be other users of that same board there that I'm sure will be able to help you.

HERE is your motherboard manual. However, I didn't see anything that particularly addressed disabling the onboard video.

Please, post back here w/ your results, questions, and any comments, etc.

Thank you
BJ @:)

Disabling Onboard Video

no you dont need the jumpers or some from there...just before booting your OS,go into the bios field.
there you will find the option you must set to disable.
the exact point youll find it I cant tell you because bios are different from board to board..depending of the manufacturer..just surf the bios, youll find it and disable it

Installing NVidia 8500GT XFX 256MB graphics to A8N-VM Motherboard

The chances are that you have an old motherboard which is not compatable with the new graphic card. Or you may be running windows 98 and are downloading the driver for xp or visa versa. The probable solution, will be to sell the new card on ebay and buy the best old card you can off ebay. Or just make do with the card you already had in your computer. If you are determined to have a better graphics card. A motherboard upgrade with better graphic card may be the best answer or buy a better spec pc second hand if you don't have much money. You'll probably waiste a lot of time trying to get the new card to work and it probably never will.
