Question about D-Link DIR-625 (790069292637) Wireless Router

1 Answer

Connect wireless g devices to D-Link 615 (wireless n) router

I have a D-link 615 and connect my laptop to it using a USB device. That works fine. I also have a desktop machine wired to it via ethernet, which works fine, too.

My wife just inherited a Dell Inspiron 700m with Intel 2200BG card. I also have a desktop machine with a Belkin wireless g card. Neither of these will connect to the network, though they can see it OK.

I'd just accept it as a problem of the two different standards, except that my laptop (Intel 3945ABG) can also connect at wireless g speeds very well if I leave the USB device off.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Joker. I rechecked that, and it was set up correctly as you suggested. Having spent so much time on the setup, it was quite possible that anything had been changed!

I solved the problem by updating the drivers. The machine had belonged to our daughter and I didn't realise she hadn't done that.

I also had to assign an IP address to the machine. I am finding that DHCP is not particularly reliable on this router.

A reboot or two were the final steps to solve the problem. Thanks for your effort!

Try to able the WI-FI Protected Setup that you have in your router.
Make sure that the MAC filtering is OFF in your Network Filter under the Advanced tab.

Login in using your browser using a LAN cable and go to the wireless settings and set-up a wireless password/key. Remember the key because each device will now need it to connect. You can also turn OFF Broadcast SSID and your network name will not be shown on anyone's device. You must remember the network name when using this method.

My D-link router (dir 615) saying is connected but have no internet access

Wired or wireless? Check all cables, have you tried to connect with a Ethernet cable to the ISP modem, if it connects, try connecting via the cable to the D-link. Work you way through the devices one by one.If it connects via the cable, it's the computer's wireless adapter. Will other computers connect? Or contact your ISP to verify the signal, have a tech come out to analyze the signal. It may be outside. It's happened before, to me.

Can't get internet to work with dir-615 router for more than a day or two at a time

If you have more than one device hooked up to the router, when the problem occurs try pinging another device. If you are able to then the router is working fine and most likely the modem is flaky and needs to be replaced. The modem supplies the internet connection, the router just applies NAT so that more than one device and use your public IP address. If this turns out to be the issue make sure you contact your ISP for any special instructions. For instances Comcast requires the MAC address located on the bottom or back of the modem in order for your connection to work, other ISP use proxy settings. Century Link has no requirements.

I am connected to a DIR 615, it says I have wireless connection but it won't connect wireless, if I connect a cable it is fine??

Hi mike63771,

All you need to do is to set it up properly. Make sure that the router is connected to the computer using an ethernet cable so that the computer will be able to communicate with the router. Then open a browser type 192.168.0.1 on the address bar. The default username is admin and the password is blank. Go to the Wireless Settings Page then check the SSID or Network Name and the Network Key or Passphrase. Now try to connect to your computer. Click on Start then click on Connect To. Select your Network Name then if it ask you to enter a password enter the Network Key. You can personalize the network key on the router settings page.

Rate me if this helps so i can help other.

Thanks for using Fixya.

if youve changed the password on the router since the other computers logged onto the network, then you need to delete the network history from those computers.
Otherwise those laptops will be trying to connect to the network with the old details.

New laptop won't connect to internet thru D-link 615 even tho main computer works thru D-link 615

What is the Operating system on the laptop ?
If it is XP then in the bottom right hand corner you will find Wireless network connection ( looks like 1 computer monitor). Use that icon to connect to the wireless network.
If it is windows Vista, then in the bottom right hand corner you will find 2 computer monitor icon. Use that icon to connect to the wireless network.
If it is Windows 98/ME/2000 then use the adapter utility to connect to the wireless network.
For MAC you will see the AIRPORT icon at the top.

Check the wireless settings of the router first . Make sure that you have all the wireless settings of the router. If you are not sure about the settings, then open the router set up and check the settings.
