Extremely noisy on spin cycle

My WMA76 is extremely noisey on a spin cycle only. The problem is getting far too loud. It is only when there is a load inside (no clothes-no noise) I would of thought drum bearing at fault, but im no convinced as its quiet as a mouse with no load! I have checked the 2 hanging springs are attached to chassis, also 2 damper legs under drum to chassis, and now im baffled!!
The noise has got worse over last few months.
Any suggestions please???

I would agree with your initial diagnosis that it is the main drum bearings that is the source of the noise.,
try and spin the drum by hand, if it feels rough, or grinding then it is the bearings, also try lifting the drum up and down, if you can feel movement, again it confirms bearing failure..
If you are not sure, remove the belt and try it again, this is done from the rear, remove the lower panel and slip belt off. this will give you the opportunity to make sure the noise is not from the motor.

If the bearings have gone, it is a major repair, and I would not recommend a DIY repair, as it is a complete strip down.
If the m/c is less than 5 years old, you may be able to get it put right under the Hotpoint 5 year part guarantee, you pay for labour, about £90.00, you would have to check with Hotpoint.
Plz rate my solution.
Thanks.

It is most likely the weight on the top of the washing machine that has come lose. I had this problem when I first bought my machine and called an engineer out on warranty. he took the top panel of the washing machnine off, fastened the nuts on the the weight that stops the machine from jumping on a spin cylce and the machine was quiet again. It is a job that is easily done and doesn't need an engineer providing you can use a screwdriver to take the panel off at the top and use a spanner to fasten the nuts for the weight. ;-)

if this is a front load washer you broke the spider gear from using to much detergent.it eats at the gear and unfortunitly it's cheaper to replace it than to fix it.if it's a top load washer it sounds like the tranny is bad, model number is no good, can't look up your machine

When on a fast spin it is extremely loud, too loud...

Water in bearings causes rust, and rust in bearings creates noise...This is the most likely reason for the noisy spin....Check for any slop in inner drum....Bearings and seals and likely the shaft probably need to be replaced....Quite a big and complex job....Good luck....Nomess

If the machine is noisey when spinning it means the seal at the back of the bowl has failed,Letting water past & into the bearings,It is a large job as the whole bowl assembly needs to come out to repair it,Sorry for the bad news,Kind Regards.

NAV6800AWW - noisy

hi there,

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping/or sound
during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and
redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

Hotpoint wma76 front load very noisy on spin cycle

If the machine is only noisy during the spin cycle then it is probably not the bearings, more likely it is probably the same issue I had. There is a large weight attached to the top of the drum, in my case it was loose. A simple fix, remove the lid and tighten the three bolts. The lid is removed using a T20 star key, you can buy these at places like Homebase or B&Q (about £7.50 for a set of 10 different sizes). There are two little plastic lugs on the side of the lid, the screws are behind these, remove them and then pull the lid forward and up. The weight is obvious, it looks like an odd shaped brick and is bolted down with three bolts. In my case the front one was loose.
