Question about Kitchen Ranges

Open Question

I have a whirlpool acubake gas range model number GS440LEMB 2. The stove top works great but the oven does not hold a temperature,. I ought one of those hanging thermometers to check the temp when my food wasn't cooking properly. The temp fluctuates all over some times way too hot others no where hot enough. I don't have any error codes on the display, is there something I can replace myself such as the ignitor?

The oven does heat and the beep goes off to tell me it's reached the designated temp, but it doesn't hold that temp,. The temp fluctuates,. While trying to cook a turkey, it was off by about 50 degrees too low, so when I turn it up,, by 50 degrees it then went to about 75 degrees warmer, but 30 min later it was back to a lower temp. The oven itself says its the temp I requested, but the hanging oven thermometer I purchased says otherwise. Any bake good I try, come out terrible. What could cause this temp fluctuation?

SOURCE: Oven temperature fluctuating

Glowworm, Im assuming your model is a 790.78802500. If your husband is handy with a meter have him ohm out the sensor. It should show around 1091 ohms at 75 degrees or room temp. The preheat is programed so that the manufacturer can get the energy effecient label on the range and what ever perks they get from it. It actually should take around another 10 to 15 minutes to reach the set temp after it shows preheated. You can calibrate the oven by setting bake to 550 degrees. Then press and hold the bake pad again for 15 seconds or until a single beep is heard. Now you can adust temps up or down in 5 degree increments up to 35 degrees by using the slew keys. It will show in the display. Once you have the calibration done, press stop/clear. Catriver...post back

SOURCE: CRG9700 - OVEN TEMPERATURE BIG FLUCTUATIONS

biggest issue with any gas oven is a faulty ignitor, not maintaining oven temp, too long to preheat, taking too long to cook, possible slight gas smell during operation, all signs of a bad ( or going bad) ignitor

SOURCE: Oven wont light

Mine did that and I found the ignitor for the oven was bad. It was the "glow" type for pilotless ignition and it was burned out. It is supposed to glow bright red and the gas comes on and the oven will light. It was easy to tell that it was bad. But to check it I swapped the broiler ignitor with the oven ignitor and the oven worked.

you may need a sensor change if the oven is on and sensor is gone there is a protection on oven to shut down cause of over heating ... i would try un plugging the stove for 10 min .... plugging back in and seeing if it resets ....also make sure when oven is on there is nothing on the element blocking the oven from releasing the heat if this doesnt work may need a new sensor

Hi
Thanks for using FixYa. This indicates oven temperature sensor circuit failure. To resolve this issue you'll have to check the oven temp. sensor circuit if the reading is more then 1100ohms then it should be replaced however, if the rating is fine then it is the Electronic Range Control (ERC) that has gone bad & should be replaced. Please accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Whirlpool gas oven sf315pemb1- oven not heating

Hi, It sounds like the ignitor has gone bad. Remove the floor panel in the oven and locate the ignitor fastened to the burner. There should be 120V going to the ignitor harness.
If you have voltage but no ignition, change the ignitor.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Some gas ranges may take 10 or so minutes to light.
Other than that you may have a defective glow bar ignitor.
If it glows and does not light the reistance in the ignitior has failed.

This error indicates the Oven temperature is too high,
You will need to replace the Oven temperature sensor (RTD).

Oven beeping f1 and f3

Here are the error codes for your range:

F1 Circuit board defective Replace control board F2 1. The oven temp has risen above 665F and the door is not locked or
2. The temp has risen above 965F with the door locked 1. Check oven temp in mode that failure occurred. Replace EOC (Electronic Oven Control) if above limits
2. Check 8-pin connector. Check and replace oven temperature sensor if necessary F3 Oven temperature sensor is open (above 3000 ohms) Check resistance of oven temperature sensor, check for open wiring between oven temperature sensor and control F4 Oven temperature sensor is shorted (below 500 ohms) Check resistance of oven temperature sensor, check for shorted wiring between oven temperature sensor and control F5 Internal watchdog circuit has detected a failure Defective EOC (Electronic Oven Control) F6 Shorted buttons Check push buttons and dome switches on control F8 Logic interrupted (lock motor switch sequence) Check door lock switches and wiring

Most likely problem is the oven temp. sensor. Should check around 1100 ohms at room temp. I would replace that first because it is the easiest and cheaper than an oven control.
