by doesn't fit, do you mean gives you a microsoft verification error, such as "this driver is not verified by Microsoft."?

If that is the case, let it install anyhow. HP knows better than Microsoft whether the drivers will work.

the manuals are PDF format which requires adobe reader be installed.

SOURCE: HP Pavilion DV1000 drivers...

I found the problem to be a rather simple but frustrating one....when is an HP dv1000 not a dv1000....almost always!! You cannot get the correct downloads based on the model number on the tag. You must specify the PRODUCT NUMBER on the HP download site from the tag, not model. You can enter the general DV1000 and get to the download page and look for the entry "Not your Product?!" Follow that link and enter the PN from the tag....download those and you will get drivers that work with your unit. My "DV1000" was actually a DV1660!!!!
