I had the same problem (It was a loose conection)....I called Garmin and they told me they are not in contract with palm anymore for this model....So what I did ("But don't recommend you do,if you don't feel comfortable doing it")..."VERY CAREFULLY open the cover by un-screwing the 4 screws on the back and then un-screw the 2 screws on the mother board...And then VERY CAREFULLY pull off the mother board and rest it on something soft, then begin to look for two loose connection which is located where the battery is plugged into the unit...I found that out by testing my battery with a volt-meter, I then push in the connector and now it works great. (Here is a video that show how to replace the battery) "warning". ....consult a professional if you don't feel comfortable with doing this.

First make sure the screen is clean of any dirt or oils that may deposit on your screen from your fingers. Use a stylist (a mini pencil like item that came with your GPS) or and other non metal semi pointed item and go through the screen alignment process. Hit the "X's" as you see them (it will move 4 or 5 times to ensure the screen is aligned.) After it is aligned it should give you other options. I have seen GPS's recycle trough the alignment process two or three times before cycling out. If you do this and you are still you are having issues, and you have tried resetting it, you may have a hardware issue.
How long does it try to find the satellites? If it trys for a half hour of more with no results, the antenna may be broken. I have read in other forms that people have added an external antenna and their units would then work, evfen with the built in antenna broken.
dont send your ique 3600 to raytech electr.i leaving at 5 min. from there and last week they tell me they dont repair the ique anymore they send back all there part to garmin they had to much problem with them good lock
I had the identical problem; I called Garmin and a new battery = $50, installed only @ the factory. I tried buying one off eBay, but those batteries spec out ok but don't have the pigtail leads required for my M3 (probably would work just fine for M5). I soldered on the pigtail from the old battery from my M3, then put it all back together. Works! However, the new battery ultimately drains down over several hours so when I'm not using it I have to trickle-charge the thing constantly. Bottom line: I suggest sending your M3 back to the factory for a new battery rather than trying to replace it on your own.
I have a similar problem but I can't turn the GPS off at all, even when the antenna is down. As far as the power on/off cycle, I found another link on this site that said to turn off WAAS while the GPS is off then when you turn it on the unit will not power cycle continuously. You loose the WAAS feature but the GPS and unit still works.
I just started having the same problem today too. Go to preferences for gps. I did it by clicking down where the battery symbol is and where the satellite indicator comes up. Then click the quegps in the top left hand corner of the screen. Click preferences and disable WAAS. Seemed to work fine after that. I would like to have WAAS enabled so if you find anything else let me know. Wierd that happened on same day. Let me know firstname.lastname@example.org.
