# Removing exponent from canon F-603 to operate in normal mode

When I multiply 12 by 12 my answer is 1.44 to the exponent 02. I do not understand this. Can I set to the normal mode?

I don't have this calculator, but let's give this a shot and see if it gives us the correct answer.

Let's try 10 to the exponent -2. The rule for negative exponents is to put 1 on the top and the term with a positive exponent on the bottom. In this case, it would be 1 on the top and 10 to the exponent 2 on the bottom, or 1 / 100 or 0.01.

In the calculator, enter 10, hit the x to the power of y key, left bracket (, the negative key (-), 2, the right bracket ), and finally the = key. You might not have to enter the left and right brackets, but I like to enter them to understand what I enter in brackets is the exponent.

### How do you simplify the exponent on the calculator?

Hi,

I assume 13m/2 is the radius of the sphere and you are trying to calculate the volume of the sphere.

The first thing we have to think of is BEDMAS, the order of operations, as some calculators do them correctly, while others do not. Let's be safe and do the BEDMAS manually so we know we will get the correct answer.

B - brackets - enter 13/2 in the calculator - hit enter
E - exponents - with the answer from the first line in the calculator, use the hat key (^) or the y to the x key to raise this to the third power (exponent 3).
M - multiply - with the answer from the line above, multiply this by pi or use what you are instructed to use or use 3.14159, then multiply by 4 and divide by 3.

### What is the answer to to this (x^5)^3(x^3)^4

We have to follow BEDMAS, the order of operations, where brackets are first, then exponents, followed by division and multiplication, and finally addition and subtraction.

Also, we have to use the exponent law of an exponent to an exponent, we multiply the exponents with the same base.

If we forget this, we can always do it the long way.

(x^5)^3 = (x^5)(x^5)(x^5) = x^15

Similarly, (x^3)^4= (x^3)(x^3)(x^3)(x^3) = x ^12

Now that we have done the exponents, we can multiply x^15 by x^12 and get x^27.

### I need to understand how to divide a binomial.

Let's take 2x^2 - 10x +12 and divide it by x-2.

How many times does x go into 2x^2. Put the answer, 2x above the 2x^2. Next mulitply (x-2) by 2x and put the answer under 2x^2. Now subtract that answer from 2x^2 - 10x and we get -6x (-10x - (-4x)).

How many time does x go into -6x. -6 time. Write this above the line and put the answer above the -10x. Next multiply (x-2) by -6 and put the answer under the -6x. Subtract and we get 0 and we are done. If we want to check our answer we can multiply (x-2) and (2x - 6) and we should get 2x^2 - 10 x + 12.
