Question about Daewoo DP42SM 42 in. HD-Ready Plasma Television
I just bought this Plasma and I don't think the picture is as crisp as it should be. If I get up really close I the picture actually looks a little wavy and dotty. I don't know if it's just an issue with my picture settings or if it's more serious than that. I have this running from my satellite through my dvd player which is conneccted to the monitor through cables. Please help! Thanks!
First of all is this a ED or HD plasma model? If it is ED you will only get a maximum resolution of 480p which is DVD quality at most. An HD will go to 1080i but that is depending on the input type. If your satellite box is not an HD type you will only get 480i resolution on either ED or HD versions. The second thing is all 4x3 programming has to be up-converted to fit the screen scince plasmas are mostly a 16x9 frame. When you upconvert and or strtch the image you do loose resolution in the picture. The draw back on a plasma is that you must stretch the image or else if you leave it in the 4x3 normal mode you will have the black borders on the sides and you risk the chance of burning those into the screen which is NOT covered by any warranty. HD televisions just don't do standard broadcast (non HD) that well. Its like running a Ferrari on regualr unleaded gas.

The only thing you can do really is check your television settings to make sure its set up correctly and the satellite settings. Also if your watching analog channels through your set there gonna look fuzzy and distorted with blotches sometimes and also remember the bigger your tv the further back your supposed to sit if you stand right infront of it you'll see everything the way its not meant to be seen. after you try all that make sure your using either component or hdmi cables for the best picture.
