Try flipping the bobbin. The thread must come off in a certain direction to work properly.

Thread breaks when zigzagging but straight stitch ok

Check that the bobbin thread is not pulling the top thread down when zig-zagging. If so, the bobbin tension may be too tight.

Also, there could be a burr or nick somewhere that is catching the thread when zig-zagging. Wraps very fine fabric around your finger (silk, old hosiery, etc.) and run your finger around the needleplate and underneath. If there is a snag somewhere, the fabric should catch on it. Generally, carefully sanding with a fine emery board or sandpaper can smooth it.

How to thread childs singer zig zag sewing machine

You didn't give the model name for the machine; however, if it's a Pixie or Pixie Plus, you can download the user's manual that shows you how to thread it and wind a bobbin from the Singer Sewing Machine site. The number listed above your question is not a legitimate model number; it might be a serial number.

Sews straight when on zigzag

it's possible the zig zag gear or cam could be worn or damaged
and the machine should be checked to see for sure what's happened.

I'm sewing a zig zag stitch and the underside is a perfect zig zag and the upper side looks like it should be the underside....how can I fix this so that the beautiful zig zag is on the top?

FIRST > Make sure your bobbin case is threaded correctly...

NEXT
For normal straight sewing the top tension should be around 5, for zigzag or satin stitch you need to lower your upper thread tension a bit. Try it at 4, if it still pulls your bottom thread to the top try it at 3 etc...

I have a Singer Special Zig Zag Model 418. I can

More than likely you have a broken vertical shaft gear.

When you turn the handwheel you should see the sewing hook moving under the bobbin case.

If not, take it to a sewing repair person and it should cost somewhere around $100 to repair.

Zig zag stitches are not holding

When ever a machine is jamming up the bobbin thread, it is a result of your top tension. It is either set to low (under 4), or the thread has come out of the take-up lever. Check your threading, fromt he spool pin, down to 2 and up to 3. Three is the take up lever. From the take-up lever down to 4. Set the thread behind the thread guide and thread the needle form front to back. Low quailtu thread 9dual duty or all purpose) can also create this problem.

thanks,

Bonnie
