was lifting out so probably did need replaced. Still having the same problem after replacing. The compressor stopped running and it the ice maker dumped ice, then 10 minutes later the freezer temp went up to 20 degrees F and about 10 min later it was up to 30 degrees. Fridge went up to 40 degrees. Now the compressor is running again and it is starting to go down. a little below 20 degrees in the freezer., this is after about 35 minutes. It will go back below zero in time, but this seems like to much fluctuatuin in temperature. Could it be that we also need to replace the thermitstors? Could the seal be bad? I thin the compressor just stays off too long once it does shut off. Any help would be very much appreciated!

SOURCE: Westinhouse Upside down BJ424S-R6 Freezer works

if the freezer is cold and the refrige is warm then you have a defrost problem remove the rear panel of the freezer inside the freezer you will most likely see an ice build up where the condensor is either the fan is not working to blow the cold air into the frige side or the tstat or heater have gone bad. It is very rare in all actuallity for the heater to go bad so it would most likely be your fan which when u take off the panel you can observe if it is working or not any ice build up should be melted witha hair dryer if the fan is running fine then the next step would be to do a continuity check with the fridge unplugged on yr t-stat or thermal relay disc its called both its the small round disc with two wires that is hooked to one of the lines going to the condensor (usually foudn on the left side) check both these and message me back and if you have any further questions message me them back as well and please also remember when this chat is concluded to rank how this opinion has helped in your appliance situation thanks again

SOURCE: Hello : I have a Samsung refridgerator about 8

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.
First I would check cold control. Thats where you turn it off, if your temp is not warm. it can
be defective and not shutting off. If your temp is warm proceed with the following.
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if FREEZER CONTROL is turned WARMER WHICH MAKES THE REF COLDER AND VICE-VERSA. SEE?
The ref. temp should be about 33-35
The Freezer temp should be 0 to 10 Any thing below these temps is overkill and a waste of elect
The higher the number you turn it up to is the coldest
But is probably a common defrost problem The ice build up
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Make sure back cover is on the fridge. Some take them off and throw them away.
make one out of cardboard if its gone, using the holes of the old one.

SOURCE: Freezer alarm goes off even though the freezer temperature is below -20C. The compressor runs continuously.

From the sound of it the temperature control is bad. I'm only stating this because if the cold control (temperature control) isn't converting the temperature to electrical signal properly, the machine will constantly run trying to reach the set temperature the cold control is set at. Question, is there a digital display showing the temperature or did you use a meter or thermometer to check it, and how is the temperature set, by a digital control or a dial, rheostat or any other type of manual control?

How frequently should the compressor run on a fridge?

Hello;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

The model number provided does not register. Your model number is located on the inside wall of your fresh food section.

Your freezer is your only source of cooling. It will meet its setting before meeting the refrigerator temperature.

The normal setting are -2 to +2 degrees F. for the freezer and 35 -40 degrees F. for your fresh food section.

Your freezer will go about 10 degrees F. above the set temperature. Then when it reaches 10 degrees F. below the set temperature the compressor will kick in.

You have condensing coils either under your unit or a canister in the back which gets ride of the heat. When the condensing coil is plugged up with dust, this could affect your cooling by as much as 40 degrees.

I do not think this is your total problem.

Feel the face of your separator wall between your freezer and fresh food section. Is it hot?

Your problem is your condenser fan in the lower right back of you unit is burned out.

So, you can not dissipate the heat.

Remove the lower back cover. Take a common household fan to blow air under your unit.

Your compressor is running to make up for the heat that the condenser fan can not dissipate.

My Fridgidaire upright Gallery freezer is freezing my food but the appliance seems to be constantly running and the temperature control on the outside is reading 29 Celsius when it obviously isn't

Hi Susan Abboud - Modern freezers have increased storage capacity and keep more even temperature that may require the compressors to run longer but use less energy. Was the unit disconnected previously for any reason? If so, freezer requires a minimum of 4 hours to cold down completely. Confirm that the temperature control is not set too cold and that the door is not being open frequently. A dirty, cracked, worn or poorly fitted door gasket can allow warm air to enter the unit causing it to have to run longer to remove the warm air. Leaks in the door seal will cause freezer to run longer in order to maintain desired temperature. Cleaned the gasket, if it is too damage then it will need to be replace. You can check and see if the door seal is bad by, placing a dollar between the gasket and cabinet. Check to see if the door is being blocked by anything stopping it from closing properly. If nothing is stopping the door then replace gasket. Keep in mind that there should also be at least 4-6 in of air space on all sides of the unit. If freezer is built in or has items stored on top that cover the unit, the can cause long run times, high temperature in the freezer and premature failure to the unit. Do not block the toe grille on the lower front of the unit. Sufficient air circulation is essential for the properly operation of your freezer, about 3 inches around the unit.

Freezer won't get below 30 degrees at the highest setting, food won't freeze.

Possible that the gas pressure is down to low gas or leak on the system. Also it can be due to faulty thermostat, faulty compressor if the compressor is working all the time and reaching the set temperature. Also if the compressor is not cutting off this must be a suspect.

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!

Well, by the details, you quoted, it seems, either the main power supply is loose and needs to be tightened up. Also, do make sure, that the compressor run Capacitor is working properly, is not leaked or faulty or loosely connected. Moreover, there is a possibility that the thermostat unit (That controls the switching of the compressor/ heater and other temperature details) is not working properly and kicking the compressor frequently. Hope, now you got a wider picture of the possibilities, you need to start with. Feel free to ask, more details, or any question regarding the query. Hope to hear from you Soon..

Concerned.

Freezer stopped working.

It might be the compressor making the noise. If it is,the compressor will start/stop frequently. This means that it is tripping on overload due to mechanical damage.Only way to solve this prolem is to replace the compressor (if the freezer is still in a good condition).
