Hi, my Maytag Atlantis electric dryer 4years old , inside the tub the top layer is eroding in spots. What is that material underneath and is it toxic...is it ok for me to dry my clothes and towels? I do not want to expose my family to some toxic material that is not suppose to be exposed. I have about 5 small, mabe 2 inch by 3/4 inch areas that are eroded, and the next layer is now exposed on the inside tub that turns the clothes to dry. Please advise...do I need a new dryer ? Thank you, Barbara [email protected] Jan.22, 2009
I WOULD NOT WORRY ABOUT THE FINISH COMING OF EXPOSING ANYTHING TOXIC. WHAT COULD HAPPEN IS THAT WITH TIME, THE DRUM MAY RUST AND TRANSFER IT ONTO THE CLOTHES. DEPENDING ON ITS CONDITION, IT SEEMS NEW ENOUGH TO WARRANT INSTALLING A NEW DRUM. I DONT KNOW IF A COATING OF PORCALINE SPRAY PAINT WOULD STAND UP TO THE CONDITIONS IN THE DRYER BUT IT MAY BE WORTH A SHOT AS I DONT KNOW OFF HAND WHAT A DRUM SELLS FOR.
