Re: I have a problem with my 512 mb PQI fash drive
Hi. How do you open a flash drive anyway? Cause me... I'll just right click the drive then click the "Explore" menu and thats the way to avoid virus menu like the Autoplay(once you double-click the drive, it wont open 'cause it has an extra Autoplay menu}. By the way, does your PC virus-free?Try to check the drive by right-clicking the drive. If you see two Autoplay menus and the other Autoplay is highlighted or the font is thick, your PC surely has a virus. You must remove it first.
Or try to go to do this:
Contol Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/Disk Management and look for the drive. Right-click it and click the Open or Explore menu.
I hope I help you with this kind of suggestion.

With the drive plugged in on powered on place your hand on it should be able to feel it vibrating (if no its not getting power or dead)
If power and vibrating put your ear to the drive (repeating and squealing are bad, crunching sound is generally ok)
With the drive plugged in and it sounds ok and it's vibrating[platters are spinning] right click on "Computer"/"My Computer" select manage > Disk Management, locate your drive if it is listed try to initialize it
Right Click drive, properties, hardware tab, select drive, properties, volume tab and click populate
If it wont populate or doesn't show at all in storage manager at all either the drive itself is bad or the control in the external enclosure is bad. You can attempt to remove the drive from the enclosure and plug it in directly into the computer but this tends to void it's warranty. If the drive works however you can simply buy a new enclosure for about $12
If the files are still on the flash drive you can simply plug it into your computer and move the files off. if the files are no longer on the flash drive then you are out of luck because they are gone forever. I hope this helps and have a nice day!
Not exactly a solution but I have had the same problem with one of these Simple Tech Signature Mini 320's for a while. Real finicky. Will only be recognized on direct connected to MB USB ports and even then with Win 7 or XP I get the "This USB device can perform faster if you connect it to a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port." no matter what ports I connect it to. While having this issue on this "main" computer I have previously connected it to some other computer (don't remember which, now) and it connected at 2.0 speed. What's going on??
if you already tried different computers, and checked if the USB port is a known good port, then it might be your USB flash drive thats having problems. Check if your flash drive has lifetime warranty thru PQi's website...you might be able to get that 1 replaced..
the hard drive inside of the external device is damaged. probably the drive head scratched one or more of the platters inside of the drive. this is a common occurance with laptops and computers when they take a dive off of a desk.
need to either get a replacement drive or another external hard drive.
to work with vista you must be having the minimum system requirements of 512 mb ram otherwise you will b experience slow...
if you have 512 mb ram or more than that then may be it s operating system problem just try reinstalling vista again.... and the drive in which the os lies may be in ntfs file system format ... so it is slow.....
